MOT Failure?!
Just back after first MOT and it failed!?
Was advised that the drivers side front brake is constantly on (too much pressure) Is this a common problem? and what could be the cause? |
sounds like a sticky caliper, not uncommon no.
|
how easy is it to fix?
|
As a quick fix you can remove the pads and release the offending piston by extending it via the pedal, then moving it back with a block of wood. Ensure the lid is off the brake fluid reservoir and most importantly you don't pump the caliper so far that you can't get the wedge in to move them back.
Only a stopgap to get through the mot test. |
|
need to confirm it is that, then get the caipers reconed.
some place do an exchange basis, some recon yours. |
no real rush with MOT, since heading away tomorrow, and car will be parked up till monday. so might just let them sort it and then re test!
I will be noting the mileage so no joy rides by them, but then i know most of them working there. hope it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. |
Thankyou for that, i'm not very good with using google! as original post, was wonding if common issue, what it is and likely cost. Will find out once back from stag weekend |

Cost will depends on who does it. If it were me, I'd have BOTH calipers off and sent to Godspeed, he will recon them like new andf uses stainless pistons in the rebuild so it never happens again. |
