best turbo for 300hp in wrx??

hi guys
as above im collecting bits for an up and coming remap.
what is the best and cheapest option for a turbo to make 300bhp(ish) on a 2004 blob wrx

cheers

SC32 Billet which is a TD04 hybrid, spools very well and will make 300-320bhp and only £550+ vat on an exchange basis.

carrington865 31 August 2012 10:03 AM

still being td04 im going to guess its a direct fit?

do the sti turbos vf35 fit straight on no fitting mods required?

Scoobyno1 31 August 2012 10:05 AM

I have a vf43 on my bug wrx and its making 330bhp

Yes direct fit for both the hybrid and the VF series turbos, however, one will spool significantly faster than the other :D

JDM_Stig 31 August 2012 10:18 AM

a VF30 will get you over 300 bhp also

cheers man. il have to consider pros and cons for price of them.
i kinda like a lil bit of lag, makes the turbo surge more enjoyable

VF23/24 would make 300bhp and would be a cheap upgrade too, can be pick for around £200

any graphs, i bet that thing spools if you just look at it hard lol

VF24 here, I picked mine up for 150 in good nick and holds boost really well.
Basically any VF22,23,24(28 same turbo), 34,35 will do. All will get you well over 300bhp it just comes down to how much over 300 and how early you need the spool up.

carrington865 01 September 2012 11:15 AM

im not really looking to go much past 300. maybe 310 most, i dont want to start eating the gearbox. alough it would be nice to have the ability to go for extra bhp in future. would like to boost to be hitting around 3k rpm.

which of the vf series would bring the boost on around the 3 to 3.5k rev range?

Silverrally 01 September 2012 11:59 AM

I have an excellent vf35 here with housing cracks at all pm if your interested

Better to pay a little extra and fit a 20g, as this will be good for 400bhp when you get more hunger for power and believe me you will

carrington865 03 September 2012 07:13 AM

do u know if the legacy turbos eg vf 13/14/21 fit directly and are they any good for 300ish bhp. they are pretty cheap to get

Not a good plan in my opinion.

Go for a TD04 hybrid mate should see you pass 300 and retain the early spool

Vote for VF35, good spool and LOADS of mid range grunt. Very happy with mine.

Would like to see how a SC32 compares with spool etc.

Interesting as that spools faster than my 35, make me want a 34 now :)

Although it might just be the difference in specs of the legacy.

have you got a boost graph?

Paullen 03 September 2012 01:02 PM

I'll pop the the scan up tonight.
At the mo it has a greddy boost controller, but will have a 3 port run by the ecu, when funds allow.

Tidgy 03 September 2012 01:05 PM

might be summit to do with that, i'm running autronics management and i've got front mount on as well (so if you believe scoobynet, my turbo would spool at idle if i didn't have the lag from the front mount,,, lol), alot of difference's it could be, but be interesting to see how the boost prfofile compares.

carrington865 03 September 2012 02:38 PM

cheers for the graphs guys. 325hp from a VF35 sounds ideal to me.
think thats my decision made then, just need to keep a look out for a good deal
