What's the bhp of standard v5/6 Sti engine??

What's the standard bhp of an Sti v5/6 engine?

Seems to be a few out there claiming there 300/320bhp standard

My thoughts were they we're Round the 260/280 bhp mark??

banny sti 30 August 2012 02:22 PM

The official factory figure was 280ps/276bhp

banzai2009 30 August 2012 02:29 PM

My thoughts exactly noticed quite a few on eBay claiming wild bhp figures

GC8 30 August 2012 03:39 PM

Closer to 300bhp than 280bhp on a strong engine using the correct fuel. Subaru were bound to claim 280PS for their JDM cars, but youll notice that the torque figures were higher for the STI engines.

Subaru HAD to claim 280ps, it was the law.

Yep remember standard cars loose hp fact over the years
Map tweak and figures will raise
My standard jdm sti wagon made 280 hp
Was a great car

No, it wasnt the law; it was a gentlemens agreement.

I have a rolling road print for mine in standard spec for 310 bhp. The "gentlemans" agreement was to keep the Japanese government happy. Unlike the claims of some European manufacturers the car generally did make more than stated.

Slightly off subject but my standard v7 sti jdm made 295bhp at 1.4 bar with 285 torque.

Yep your right, my bad. It was the max speed of 180kph that was law but max bhp was just an agreement as you say.

Boost is higher than it should be on a standard car is it not ??

Bristol98 31 August 2012 11:00 AM

Unless they were a limited, my V6 STi Limited wagon was 300bhp.

GC8 31 August 2012 01:18 PM

Thats conjecture, because Subaru quoted 280PS. Empirical evidence suggests that most V5> cars made around 300PS and some a little more, but Ive also seen relatively fresh cars make just under 290BHP, so barely 290PS.

The problem is that as more time passes, the experience of original owners is lost and people fill in the blanks with hearsay ...

Car was bought from a small garage in surrey, they had it imported and kept/ not been able to sell it for a couple of years. Not sure what standard boost should be? but runs rich on graphs so needs a map I think. :)
