ABS/CV Joint/Wheel Bearing/DCCD/Front diff fault?

Hi.

I have searched and searched and have not been able to really get to the bottom of what my cars fault may be.

I have just spent a small fortune getting an engine rebuilt after the car was off the road for over a year and have just remembered that when it went off it had a running fault i never got around to diagnosing. Now its back and i want to enjoy it i really feel it needs sorting.

Symptoms:

ABS Light is on, ABS not functioning.
Loud Clunking in Slow Tight Corners, forwards and backwards.
(less so with DCCD in Open but can still hear/feel it)
Whiring/Rubbing Noise going round Right Hand Bends.
R Diff Temp light sometimes on (may be completely unrelated as other faults seem to originate from front end)

When jacking N/S/F corner to change wheel gave it a wiggle to see if all was ok, and could only rotate driveshaft part way round, and was very clunky
(when jacking up O/S/F could rotate fully with no clunks.)

I have been made to believe that it is possile that the Hub/Bearing Assembly has failed, causing the clunking, by moving the DCCD settings to Open, it relieves that Torque from the Front Axle and hence lowers the stress and volume of clunking. Also, a damaged Hub/Wheel Bearing would mean the ABS Sensor/Ring Alighment would be out and they may be impacting each other.

HOWEVER, the garage that it was at for the rebuild think it is the Front Diff, and want to charge a lot of money for a rebuild on the Gearbox/Diff.

Im not sure why, but i just have a feeling its something far simpler.
Does my sleepy rambling make sense? Dont want to spend £180 on a new Hub/Wheel Bearing and it not be that, lol.

Thanks for any advice, it is greatly received and appreciated.

and something else i have though of is there is a score mark around the disc about half way across the radius of the section you can see. This again would suggest a Dodgy Wheel Bearing would it not?

Is it always necessary to change the Hub with such severe symptoms of Wheel Bearing Failure, if it is indeed that, or is it impossible to tell?
