newbie, few questions
 

Hello people, new to the site (and scoobys) so first of all hello.
Im going to be honest with you all, ive always hated scoobys:(. But i wanted somthing cheep rwd to learn how to drive a rwd car properly, a cheep rwd scooby came up and i wouldnt have got anything else like it for the money so here i am lol.
My car is a 1998 wagon turbo, its near enough std and i want a lil more power out of it. i was thinking the normal things like, front mount cooler, exhaust, filter, chip and maybe injectors. id like around 280 bhp so was wondering what id have to do it to get that sort of power.

Ok so you always hated scoobies now you have a wagon, You wanted rwd and you have awd great start lol on the plus side its not to much of a problem getting 280 bhp but it will go from not wanting to spend to much to how do i stop spending money. All i will say id be carefull in what you change on the car or you will entre the relms of needing a remap and thats when you need a fair amount of £££. Get the car on a dyno to see where you are at the moment as far as power so it will give you a base to work from. The guys at the dyno should be able to tell you what you will need to gain more. Failing that loads of advise on here.

The scooby i brought has been converted to rwd, tbh its a good car its done 150,000 miles and still drives sound. What boost do they run std? Mines running 15 psi

I'm a bit confused, although granted that doesn't take much. ;)

If you wanted a cheap rwd car why were you even considering a Scooby? Also why would anyone convert a Scooby to rwd? It just denies logic and common sense.

If you want a cheap rwd car buy a cheap Beemer, I love Beemers and have one as well as my Scooby. They are completely different cars.

If you want to learn to drive rwd properly, forget modding your car, go for a proper driving day in a Mk2 Escort.

15psi means its about standard I think (1.1 bar)

I didnt go out 2 buy a scooby, it just came up on ebay when i searched for the usual "drift, rwd" i didnt want a bmw because of the power, whats a 325? nearly 200bhp? and you would strugle 2 get much more than what 250bhp with out major work, turbo charged cars are easy to get the power from arnt they.
So anyway is ther any bits i should look 2 get like sti tb or injectors ect.
or are the parts not simply plug and play?

think I've seen it but to be honest I don't really take much notice of rovers as I can't stand them :lol1:

Tread carefully, it's an old car with quite a few miles on the clock. Pushing the power up and thrashing around sideways will shorten its life no end.

However, if you want a few more ponies them this is what you'll need -

Decent exhaust system with a sports cat downpipe or de-cat downpipe.
New panel filter, green stuff-kandN-cosworth etc etc
Stick a new fuel pump in, walbro for instance.
3 port boost solenoid
Mapping session by one of the known guys.

Could also add a better top mount, always a good idea IMO.
Some fresh plugs and oil would be a good idea also.

Fair enough, each to their own. However, you said you wanted a cheap car to learn to drive rwd. Learning to drive rwd isn't about power, it's about control.

I'd get yourself to a rally school or the like, learn your car control there, not on the road.

Beemers can have plenty power, believe me on that... ;) Theres more to it than just a turbo although the guys on here will help. I'd be wary about doing much on a 150k wagon though. By the time you do it properly you'd have bought a fast reliable proper rwd car. ;)

I dont care if it only lasts me a month and i weigh it in, ive only had it to play around in, i just want some advise on what parts i could get to help boost the performace a bit again like certain sti parts or what aftermarket stuff people are putting on.

Fair enough, loads of info on here. I think my point was that if you REALLY want to learn rwd, then you get a Mk2 Escort or a Beemer. It depends on what you want. I was lucky my dad taught me to drive rwd and he was a hard taskmaster.

You don't need to worry about POWERRRRRR.... you need to learn CONTROL.... ;)

Go on a rally course, or do what we did as kids, practice in snowy industrial estates... ;)
