Drilling newage bootlid.. Help !
 

hi, ive got an 02 jdm bug sti that has the low level rear spoiler. i want to replace it with the genuine high level one ive recently bought but will obviously need to drill the boot ! does anyone know a good/accurate way to do this ? do i need a template ? Also, the spoiler ive bought has no fixings in it, so will need to source some ! Anyone know where i can get these ?

Take it to your local fixings depot, they will be able to test with different bolts for size.
I would make out a cardboard template from the underside of the spoiler to mark out the drill points.

Measure the distances of the hole son the spoiler & go according to that. Also use some masking tape when drilling

If you get the bolts on the spoiler you can put masking tape on the boot to help drilling and make a template of underside of spoiler, if they are a little out they do slide in the mountings if genuine spoiler. Some holes line up with wrx holes, hardest part is the oval holes for the clips, I fitted a spec c boot to my sti so had similar issue as I needed to drill it for high level spoiler, but was easy for me as I made a template from my bootlid. The oval clips that clip to boot are available from dealers. You could miss the two extra ones out if you wanted and just drill the holes for the bolts.

The pattern method is possible but a bit of a pita get a length of studding the correct thread and put small pieces into each hole on the spoiler. Cover the boot lid with masking tape, use longer studs on the holes that line up with the WRX holes then put a dab do paint on each short stud. Place the spoiler on the boot lid using the longer studs into the OE holes as a guide, press down et voila one marked boot lid!

Plus get a bloody sharp drill!
