BBC Olympic commentators microphones...

Anyone else noticed how the little ends of the mouth piece are colour coded to the commentators? :lol1:

For example, Colin Jackson has a light coffee coloured one, Michael Johnson's is a nice shade of hot chocolate and John Inverdale has a pink one, which doesn't quite suit his tan.

Me and the other half spoke about these actually earlier on this evening.

Why to they seem to be using that type anyway, whats the matter with the ones that are normally used on most other things (small ones which clip onto shirt etc)?

sue barker had her's nearly stuck up her nose on opening night !!

i think that type of mic is used when they are outside (to cut down on wind noise...)

Those mics are used due to the pickup pattern of the mics.

The tie/clip on ones wouldn't hardly even pick up the voices - they're designed for studio (ie quiet) use.

The headset mics are a lot more focused to the voice.

The shadow on their faces is always black though and looks really odd.

Perhaps the colouring is so that they can always recognise their own microphone.
