ecutek remap query

the scoob that im going to be getting has a 2.5 bottom end with a sti top mount intercooler, full miltek exhaust and 1 of the cats removed and the standard turbo with a ecutek remap running 263/265 which i thought was quite a low figure really so i want to fit a walbro pump, bigger injectors and a remap but the guy only has the rolling road printout that says ecutek on it-do you have to prove that your car has already paid for the license or not? sorry if its a dumb question but i really dont know, also what sort of power will i be making roughly and safely?

regarding the remap how much does it cost being as it has an ecutek map on it?

the car is a 2004 blobeye wrx with the sti 2.5 short-block

GoML-STi 25 July 2012 07:16 PM

Whoever you take it to will know if it has the license on. If you can find out who originally mapped the car you can vet the map teamed for about £150. If you take it elsewhere you will need a full remap costing about £300-400 the only saving will be the £150 licence fee.

GoML-STi 25 July 2012 07:16 PM

Map tweaked not teamed stupid predictive text

the shreksta 25 July 2012 07:18 PM

powerstation did the map so i will take it to them

any idea power wise what i am looking at?

GoML-STi 25 July 2012 07:25 PM

Not sure Is it a TD04 turbo ? If so I don't think you will gain much if any. Best off getting a vf35 good for 350

the shreksta 25 July 2012 07:27 PM

yeah think its a td04,will get a vf35 in the end i think

because it has a 2.5 bottom end can i expect loads of torque? as its only kicking out 270ftLBS at the min

GoML-STi 25 July 2012 07:33 PM

To be honest I wouldn't bother getting it mapped till you have a replacement turbo. The 2.5 blocks do give out good torque but you need to put the TD04 in the bin first.

point taken :notworthy

its best to collect all the bits i need and fit them all at once then get it mapped again i take it?

GoML-STi 25 July 2012 07:37 PM

Spot on buddy.. Get it right first time it saves you money in the long run.. you can pick a good vf35 for around £250..

is it sensible to buy a second hand one?

GoML-STi 25 July 2012 07:45 PM

Yea sure. It's the standard turbo on the newage STi that many people remove to upgrade. I will be removing mine in a mint or two and there is nothing at all wrong with it. It's not for sale tho I'm putting it on my golf

the shreksta 25 July 2012 07:47 PM

ah right-see i told you i dont know much about these :lol1:

whats the next turbo up from that? or is 340ish bhp about the max that my engine can handle

GoML-STi 25 July 2012 07:50 PM

Not sure what the 2.5 wrx block can take. Is it from an STi if so it will have forged internals making it much stronger.

yes-powerstation said it was a brand new sti short block (now covered 30k) i was under the impression that the 2.5's were not forged

GoML-STi 25 July 2012 08:01 PM

Oh lol you may be right. As I said I dont know anything about the 2.5 blocks. Would be easy enough to find out I suppose will see what I can find for ya.

GoML-STi 25 July 2012 08:19 PM

Think the limit is around 400 BHP. For that you want hawkeye 2.5 wrx 562cc injectors. Ported headers walbro fuel pump and a turbo of your choice. The TD05 20g turbo will get you very close to 400 for the least money.. blobeye sti pink injectors are usually referred to as 550cc but they arnt they are only 500s and won't get you to 380 bhp.

if 400 is the limit then i will be happy with 340-350ish bhp for reliability

GoML-STi 25 July 2012 08:42 PM

350 is a nice figure and MPG is almost acceptable lol.

should have 400 ftLBS of torque aswell or there abouts

mpg doesnt bother me as i do about 40 miles a week only

Dont forget that you dont have to use Ecutek. Take a look at the mafless option for your car in the link in my signature below. Worth considering!

pinks will see 400bhp with correct mods and fpr but that is max or there abouts, some have even made a little more!

2.5 hawk sti bottom ends have semi forged items within, people normally run up to 380ish powerwise, there are plenty of threads on here to have a read of, they like to spit the head gaskets out after that point, not all of them but most! Some will take more and run happy and others have let go and sh1t themselves at 330 so its hit and miss :thumb:

the other mods you have failed to mention are far more costly than replacing the STi pinks for a set of wrx hawkeye blue injectors. Especially if you sell the pinks then it becomes a free mod if fitted yourself. Also running injectors at 99% duty is never a good idea. Why run 99% duty when you can pick up some hawks for less than people pay for pinks.. Some people know nothing and assume that because its out of an STi it must be better. I managed to do a "DEAL" and swapped hawk injectors and £30 for my pinks with one of these idiots who knows nothing and they thought I was the stupid one.. :cuckoo:

the shreksta 29 July 2012 06:46 PM

hey guys will i need a fuel pressure regulator aswell? what about a 3 port boost solenoid?

cheers

Hi graham i guess u are you using the carberry rom ?
Carbibbles has put a lot of effort into this And it's a cracking job
I've been following it for months on romraider and nasioc
And running it myself for a couple of months now
And I really believe its closed the gap to a point where you've got to question the likes of ecutek or after market
