Help please. V6 Type R STI hub same as 94 wrx hub? Same bearings?
 

I have a 99 version 6 type R sti with the passengers rear wheel bearing on its way out. I heard that its not an easy job to replace the bearing, having to machine press the bearing in so its cheaper/easier to replace the whole hub. Im just wondering if a 94 wrx hub is exactly the same as my type R sti hub and if it uses the same wheel bearings? Cheers in advance :)

No, a newage STI bearing and or hub will fit though.

I will add the reason im asking about the 94 wrx hub is that i have my old 94 wrx breaking so if it fits then i can just put that one on to my type r, saves buying a new one just not sure if its exactly the same?

Basicly, is a 94 wrx hub and wheel bearing exactly the same as a 99 version 6 type R STi hub and wheel bearing or does the STi type R use a more uprated, better wheel bearing and hub than the 94 wrx???? Anyone????

The Type R uses different mounting points for the brake caliper, the handbrake shoes and discs are different size and the bearing is larger than the 94 WRX.

Do you what the best way to fix the bearing? Whether to have the bearing changed or find a matching hub?

The only trouble is a used hub will have a used bearing in it, I bought two hubs and the bearings are crap, both need changing. The bearing from Camskill is about £65 I think, then you need the old one pressed out and the new one pressed in. All depends if you can find a hub that you know has a good bearing in it.

When bearings fail they quite often spin inside the hub and become loose in the carrier. they also can spin on the flange that fits inside it [ the bit the wheel bolts to ] and can render that useless too.

So I'd advise pressing the bearing out of the existing hub to see if it is still a tight fit. If it is, buy a bearing and fit it. If not you need to buy the whole Type R hub from a specialist breaker. The 01 Sti 7 onwards 'til late 2005 are OK and will fit, They have ABS which you can ignore, as the type R doesn't have ABS.

But expect to have to replace the wheel bearing in the ' new ' hub to get the best deal out of it.

PS I haven't got anything to sell you, they are genuinely hard to find these days and are quite expensive to buy when you find one.

replacement type r hubs can be found with some searching,i replaced both rear hubs for £125 each,both had good bearings in which i made sure of before buying.

I've got a pair of rear type r hubs, both have had recent bearings and flanges 1500 miles ago. Looking for 75 quid each and I'm in Wiltshire so not far away
