So what was it?? You don't see many of those about!

Hanslow 08 May 2002 10:52 PM

What was it, a Bell 222 with a few mods ;)

Tiggs 08 May 2002 11:04 PM

very cool thats what!

pslewis 08 May 2002 11:05 PM

And it DIDNT have Gold Wheels!! :D

Pete

P1Fanatic 08 May 2002 11:31 PM

Aye Bell Model 222 with a nifty paint job and some mock weapons. Apparently the missile launcher and machine guns were either on or off i.e. couldnt retract. The helicopter was even taken to many US air displays and offered passenger rides.

IIRC they are pretty pricey compared to your usual JetRanger III etc. I think second hand ones are over half a million dollars.

Tiggs 08 May 2002 11:40 PM

doesnt wear a white suit and have a monocle does he?

Bravo2zero_sps 08 May 2002 11:45 PM

A helicopter! :p

;)

FiveO 09 May 2002 09:06 AM

And what type of 'copter was Blue Thunder?

Hanslow 09 May 2002 09:20 AM

One that would have got its ass kicked by airwolf ;)

Many a debate had at school about which one was better...because they are both real :D

I've got just about all the Jan Michael Vincent episodes on video at home :o:D Didn't like it when the new bloke took over :(

Class program ;)

Ian Cook 09 May 2002 10:02 AM

Blue Thunder was a very modified Gazelle :)

'But the true "star" of the movie is Blue Thunder itself. To build it, the production company purchased a French Gazelle (Aerospatiale) helicopter, which can fly at speeds of 200 MPH, and added several prop gimmicks to it. The Gazelle is so maneuverable that the stunt pilots were able to effectively reproduce the 360° loop which Scheider is seen performing on screen.'

TBMeech 09 May 2002 10:40 AM

lol @ u lot :)

I want either of them, Airwolf with its cool turbo boost :) and Blue Thunders wisper mode hehehehe

Markus 09 May 2002 10:55 AM

Wasn't there a Redwolf? which was some prototype airwolf thingy? ok so it got it's ass kicked, but hey, cool choppers nonetheless.

TBMeech 09 May 2002 10:58 AM

Yes m8 there was, I am sure it had dodgy lasers as it's main weapon lol :)

P1Fanatic 09 May 2002 11:24 AM

Either way they were both quality choppers. Every young kid wanted to be Stringfellow Hawke/Jan Michael Vincent. I wonder if it would ever have been so popular if he wasnt in it.

Dunno if its the main chopper or just an effects chassis but there is one Blue Thunder at Disney MGM Studios in Florida looking rather worse for wear it must be said.

Blue Thunder is still a great film. The little catch line between Murphy and Cochrane "catch u later". And when Lymangood (a very young Daniel Stern) goes mama looking at that hookers breats through the choppers camera.

P1Fanatic 09 May 2002 11:27 AM

Hehe this is the closest most of us will get to a real Airwolf:

:D

TBMeech 09 May 2002 11:28 AM

would that be Streethawk? :D

Ian Cook 09 May 2002 11:37 AM

hehehe it was watching Airwolf and Blue thunder that went towards me getting my PPL(H) ;) LOL

TBMeech 09 May 2002 11:37 AM

lol I remember his 'hyperboost' or whatever it was, you could go round corners at 90 degree angles!! :D

anyone remember 'The Fall Guy' that was choice :) lol

P1Fanatic 09 May 2002 12:06 PM

The only decent show on these days that follows the old routine of good guys vs the bad guys is Nash Bridges with Don Johnson and Cheech Marin (dude from Desperado and From Dusk til Dawn). Is better than Miami Vice ever was.

Tiggs 09 May 2002 12:17 PM

anyone remember the steethawk pilot show- streethawk jumps a police harley over a ramp in the openening scene- but as the harley leaves the ramp it "becomes" a dirtbike painted white!, when it lands its a harley again! incredible trick camera work ;)

P1Fanatic 09 May 2002 12:19 PM

Like on Nightrider when every huge jump on turbo boost resulted in the front of the car buckling only to be reformed and repainted the very next second. Still we all lapped it up at the time.

Adam M 09 May 2002 12:22 PM

streethawk was lame in that respect!

watched the fall guy the other day. When I was younger i remember it being all about the brown truck that used to jump everything. Watching it now it was dissapointingly lacking in action.

Even my fave knightrider is quite weak compared with what I used to think of it :(.

Manimal - now that was class, but it isnt repeated.

I have to say that I think smallville is the modern kids equivalent of those type of programmes.

I think its fantastic, but my friends think I am lame for watching it religiously.

Tiggs 09 May 2002 12:22 PM

just looking at the streethawk pic it hasnt aged well has it!

id have an airwolf, nightrider car, the fall guys truck or BA's van but i wouldnt want that cacky looking bike!

P1Fanatic 09 May 2002 12:23 PM

I was thinking exactly that Tiggs. Even today Airwolf looks pretty damn sweet. If I won £18m on the lottery Id have to get one made up.

DJ Dunk 09 May 2002 12:27 PM

Nice gold wheels though :D

http://epguides.com/StreetHawk/cast.jpg

TBMeech 09 May 2002 12:27 PM

aaah but the thing with Streethawks bike is that you could do 300mph so no one would see you :)

I have to agree that Airwolf still looks the nuts, I want one now!!

LOL at Adam :) Manimal, you truly are an 80's child :) hehehe

Tiggs 09 May 2002 12:29 PM

that bike sucks- imagine going to a trackday on it!!!! you'd be banned for looking lame!

Tiggs

manimal- i used to wiggle my fingers to make the skin on the back of my hand look like i was becoming a dolphin/tiger/etc!
