Second Car - For Business Use
Hi Guys,
Anyone on here got a second car that is used for business use? Currently i have got the Impreza which is insured as social, domestic and commuting with Keith Michaels (literally just sorted it out last week) and if I need to drive anywhere for work, i drive to the office and pick up a pool car or a hire car and leave the scooby at the office. However I’ve just accepted a new job...doing the same role but for a different company and they tend to pay out 40p a mile for works travel...I really don't want to be adding business mileage cover to the Impreza policy...plus at 30p per mile in fuel alone its hardly worth it. So i have been offered a 55plate Mondeo Zetec Estate 2.0TDCI (130ps)...it’s my mums old car as she has just got a new Mondeo Estate...But I’m not 100% sure how my NCB would work...currently on the Impreza i have got 9 years now I’m guessing i would start with no NCB for the new car but trying to put into the online comparison sites that you do actually have 9 years no claims but that they are already allocated on a car doesn't really work. In an ideal world the only risk that should be insured should only be that for the additional business mileage, after all my other policy is for a much more valuable, powerful and theft prone car, I can only drive one car at a time but i’m pretty sure that’s not how it is going to work out though. I wouldn't need the car or the policy for another 6 weeks or so but i need to find out how much the insurance is going to be so that i can decide if it’s worth taking it or not...if not then i need to let my mum know so that she can sell the car on. So far using the odd online comparison quote I’m getting stupid prices for anything even a Corsa 1.3CDTI comes back at a silly prices. I'm going to give Keith Michaels a call on Monday to see what they can offer...has anyone got a second car insured with them? I know when I was sorting out the Impreza insurance Gary struggled to get a competitive quote for the wife’s car (a 1.4 Fiat) as they tend to specialise on the more exotic cars so a standard 1.4 Fiat is not something they normally deal with...i'm gussing this is likely to be the case with the Mondeo? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated Chris |

Thanks for the replies guys,
Over the last couple of days I have come across this mirrored NCB. Obviously I understand then general idea but I do have a few questions, 1. Does a mirrored policy have to be with the same provider as the original policy 2. If I'm using comparison websites to get an approximate cost do I just put in 9 years NCB? Will the price be an accurate representation of a mirror NCB? 3. Assuming the answers to the first question is no do all providers offer a mirrored NCB policy? Sorry for all the daft questions, I've never needed two cars before and I haven't come across a mirror NCB until this weekend. |
If you are looking to " mirror" your current policy then it has to be done with the aame insurer otherwise its pretty much starting again altho your best of talking to the insurers as they may accept your ncb mate

To be fair i did spend about 10 minutes explaining why (there is a reason for it, wether people agree or not)

sorry but thats another thing i dont understand is the fact you cant use your ncb on another car unless its "mirrored" however if you crash one car you would lose ncb`s on both cars.
