freshly ported vf35
 

Hi all just finished porting my VF35
are there any other things i can do to it before i fit it to the car?

Looks a good job there What did u use to port it out buddy?

I used a air die grinder with a carbide bit, made the job very easy

Any chance of some more pictures to show where and how much u took out?
As i am interested in doing this to a vf35 i will be fitting to mine soon

yeah no probs il take some pics today. i used the old gasket to see how much i was going to take out, i bought a harvey matched up pipe and took out about 2mm more than the inner diameter of the up pipe.

sorry im not very good at write ups, more of a doer than a talker :-)

What benefits will this give? Faster spool?

yeah much faster spool, iv matched it with a harvey smith up pipe, and iv also ported and dei wrapped my headers

Sam, I too am looking to go down this route because it seems to be the more cost effective way, than for me in particular upgrading the vf35 to a sc36 or TD05-18G which will give a small gain in comparison.

I have a newage sti so was thinking either Harvey headers, up-pipe, porting turbo and wastegate. I think this combination will give notable gains with the vf35 rather almost £800 just on a new turbo.

What is your experience on the vf35 and what you have done below??

yeah definatly more cost effective, iv never tried a sc36 but im sure there very good.
i was mainly experimenting to see what the most is that i could get out of this turbo,
the vf 35 is a great turbo delivering great power throughout the rev range, so i hoping with these few extra mods can give it an edge over a stock unit. im runnig this on stock wrx pistons and rods until they go bang then il forge it, i would like to see what the piston and rods are capable of aswell, theres always myths flying around scoobynet as to the potential of certain units, but you only learn by your mistakes.

I'd take more off the bottom lip going to the wastegate port.
Take the sharp edge off and make it rounded.

Porting the W.G. port is done to prevent boost creep. It will not influence spool per se.
Porting the turbo exhast inlet path assists gas flow and spool. Match the U/P diameter to the turbo exhaust port. You can make the turbo exhast inlet marginally bigger diameter.
For the porting to be effective the diameter reduces to the O/E diameter by the time/distance it reaches the WG port or just past depending on the casting design.
