Strange behaviour - Did they want to steal my car?!
Last night I had something weird occur. Went into Leeds centre with the Mrs, and we were going to the gym. We parked up and were sorting out our stuff etc. when a short time later a Citroen Xsara Picasso pulled up behind us and parked. Two really scruffy looking guys got out and walked off.
Fast forward to an hour and a half later, we come back from the gym and get in the car. Just as we are getting in, these two turn up again and get back in their car. I start mine up, leaving it to warm up a bit and they start theirs up. Now, I was sat here quite a while as I was having a protein shake, sorting the iPod out, etc. etc. I commented to the OH how these guys hadn't gone yet, and said it seemed a bit odd. It just *felt* very weird. So I decided to make like I was driving off and then stop again, a little further up the road. Sure enough, once I moved away, they started to follow. When I stopped they hesitated a bit, but then carried on. The whole thing was really strange. It could just have been that the driver couldn't be bothered getting out of his space until I'd moved, but the whole thing just didn't sit right. |
Did you drive straight home?
They may have wanted to see where the car was parked up overnight . |

No I went the long way and stopped a few times. Definitely wasn't followed home that I couldsee.

However I had a wake up call a while ago when my gf had her handbag stolen from her parked car at a remote but busy location. Within 30 minutes they had used a pin at 3 cashpoints to steal cash from 2 of her bank accounts. The pin was not written down in her bag and was not guessable & both cards had different pins. The only plausable explanation was that someone had watched her enter the pin numbers then followed her and stole her bag. The wierd thing is that one card had not been used for over a week! This means they must have observed her at least a week in advance (if not more) and also on a second occasion to get the other pin, then returned at a much later date to follow her & snatch the cards. The snatch took place outside a nursery school on a farm where the only pople that should be there are parents of people picking up kids, its about the safest place you could imagine and in fact the bag was on the passenger seat and the car unlocked. They didn't know this and smashed the window to grab it anyway annoyingly. They netted about £850 in total beacuse they managed to make switch type purchaces after their cashpoint maximums were reached. One bank refunded the money immediately but Barclays refused accusing her of stealing her own money! She lost about £400 because Barclays insisted he pin system was impossible to crack and she was negligent with her pin security. She tries to cover her pin like we all do I suppose but if someone wants to see it they will. I am stunned to the lengths the thieves went to to get the money, just goes to show how organised some criminals are I suppose. Oh and Barclays are complete ****s! |

They broke into my house whilst I was sleeping, took the keys pushed it down the road and drove her off. the police reckon there were five of them due to the prints etc. Good job I didn't wake up, for their sakes and mine! they were even considerate enough to leave the c.d's and tat in the car down the side of my house. I live in the middle of nowhere, safe as safe can be or at least I thought it was. Never heard of anything happening in the village let alone hanoi style burglary. I was getting the windows done at the time so the scaffolding was blocking the garage so the scoob had to sit on the drive, there was only one door that hadn't been replaced at the time of the burglary and it was that one that they used to gain entry. I still reckon it was an inside job by one of the safe style uk thugs :mad: very well planned, silent and they knew when and where to gain entry. the car was only a week old. Police found it but only because I had a tracker on it!! It was absolutely fooked, still in the running in period and they had obviously ragged it to within an inch of its life!! moral of the story don't trust anyone and don't buy windows from safestyle uk lol all my vehicles are kept under lock and key now, keys hidden, deadbolts on the garage doors as well as numerous padlocks and a decent alarm system on the house. Really is a sad state of affairs when you can't buy something with your hard earned and enjoy it without some scally taking it away form you with little or no penalty from the law!!!!!!!!!! Rant over :) |

Makes me wonder if it's better to save myself the subscription and get my tracker turned off, not sure I'd want mine back after all that! :( |

You can only hope they were badly hurt, preferably crippled. Got a feeling they just got out and walked away, laughing.

Do Toad still do those smoke pods that fill the car with smoke if it gets nicked? I used to work in commercial security and we fitted smoke cloaks to places like Boots to deter thieves. I can feel a DIY fit coming along.....

Hearing stories like this make me really concerned about this country! It's shocking when you learn about this going on in rural areas. I think it pays to be extra vigilant when you own a car like ours, I had a guy last year who followed me for 5 miles holding a digital camera on top of his steering wheel, wouldn't of minded if it was just a quick vid or a photo but this dude came off the next exit behind me and the next two round abouts which I then decided to go round and round to make him realise I noticed him. It's things like that and hearing the above that give us all a wake up call. Good work on posting this thread :thumb:

A friend of my dad had a MY04 STI brand new, hadn’t even had its first 1000 mile service when it was stolen. Obviously this was back in 2004 and the car was in factory form with the alarm and immob.
The car was taken from his drive whilst he was on Holiday, it was actually taken from his drive the day he was actually at MAN airport outbound, so the person that took the car had clearly known he was going away, or got lucky. The luck for them ended there, as the car although somehow driven away with no keys was later abandoned for some unknown reason. Damage to the car was minor, so the car was returned to the owner. Mick the owner of the car invested in some anti theft ballads for the end of his drive, and upped the security on the car ;) 3 Months later whilst working away the car was stolen again, this time they smashed the kitchen window, climbed though and turned everything upside down to find the keys to his car, the ballads and obviously the new security for the car was attached to the keys :( Again the car was recovered, and again with little or no damage, but Mick decided enough was enough and moved away from Subaru's! 12 months later he was driving around in a bloody 30k+ Noble :lol1: It amazes me the lenghts some people go to steal something, I feel for anyone what has had anything TWOC'd, Im fortunate (touch wood) not to have had anything of substantial value stolen from me, bar a mountian bike and tent when I was a nipper :Whatever_ Rob |

The insurance bill mounted to 60K :eek: It made the press as one of his firearms was allegedly used at a later date in a attempted armed Robbery, the rifle was found hidden in an old dry stone wall :cuckoo: -------------------- Another story was his Ford MK2 Escort that he bought from a guy in Manchester, which suddenly vanished from the garage the following day :eek: I suppose it was the nature of my dads business that caused his own troubles (working from home) as when selling the likes of RS, Capril, Lancia etc stripes (Stickers) he had everyone coming from anywhere for them, so they so all his passions ready to be taken :( Rob ps -sorry if thats hard to read, im at work (doh) |
Always try and change routes, always keep an eye on traffic behind you & I would say buy a snap off steering wheel and then park it down the street.
