Any ideas on what happened to the Tornados?

Anyone have anymore info on what happened to the Torandos that went down in Scotland. The obvious that springs to mind is a mid air collision, but I don't really see why that would happen as they are our bombers, rather than fighters.

I would not have expected them to be flying close enough to one another to have an issue given their role

Coming off range at Spadeaddem here in Cumbria it's easy to imagine that a pair of Tornados might come together...........

They usually tool around in pairs jinking around the countryside.

If they were out over the sea it could have been anything. Could be a mid-air collision, could have both flown into a huge flock of birds, bad weather, etc.

Not much point speculating though.

Hope the other two aircrew are found.

Would there be anything salvageable , can you in imagine the cost

As well as the lives obviously

Its sounding like one crew punched out and another went straight in. Would have to be a serious fluke if it was not a mid air collision of some kind TBH. But the reasons for that could be almost anything.

I thought it was reported as a mid air collision?

Sad news that one of the recovered has died in hospital and it's not looking good for the other 2 :-(

No problem flying close formation in them I can assure you.

No information has been released so impossible to say what happened. It looks like a mid air collision as much as anything and it is quite easy to lose sight of another aircraft approaching at low level over the sea. If the other aircraft is not above the horizon it can easily disappear into the background of the surface of the sea.

It is a very pleasant aircraft to fly with no particular vices.
