Was it Andy F that ran his around 600bhp? Simon ran his blob at late 500's but can't remember results fully ( Si, can you confirm sweetheart) .

engine was fine when it came out, just had the opportunity to have a built engine:)

Paulo P (Paul), 421bhp, 360lbft, 2005 sti short motor, ported and polished sti 3 cylinder heads, MD321S turbo (hence the low torque due to lag on a 2 litre), nismo 740cc injectors, 76mm inlet under a much modified version 3 inlet manifold system, tubular headers, FMIC, AVCR, Power FC, Z32 MAF + a lot more!

These md321 turbos, the letters after them? What they for, do some produce more torque, fatser acceleration, top end???? I am looking to maintain my standard bottom end for a good while at least whilst funds permit so am lookin at new turbots! Been eyeing up the sc46 7cm as im wanting less lag and more get up and go so to speak, so how do the md series compare for responce, lag etc, trying to build a pic of what peoples thoughts are on them then can concentrate on which one to buy ;)

Cheers guys, by the way mine is 03 blob sti with 3" down pipe in to 2.5" center, all cats removed, pannel filter and an ecu tek remap, got a print out of 345 bhp, not sure on torque off top of head and printout came with car frim previous owner so cant comment on rollers, will have to dig it out!

scoobyken 02 July 2012 01:53 PM

Craig.. I was going to go for a md321t but got convinced the sc turbos are a lot better on spool up! Will be at scoobyclinic tmrw for the new turbo n remap by pat! Can't wait...

My car so far is sti04 , 352bhp/338lb torque, standard internals, lateral manifold, Harvey trick up-pipe, full decat system, 740cc lateral injectors, hks filter, fmic, ecutek remap by zen.

Infected by sti 02 July 2012 02:30 PM

Same route as me then! I have also heard alot of good things about the sc46 and it characteristics.

I have just ordered me a set of rcm gt spec headers, will soon be ordering my harvey up pipe, been in contact lately and must say he's a top bloke and full of helpfull and usefull information :thumb:

Need a 3" system from the downpipe back now along with my injectors which should be v shortly then just the turbo which is why im seeking peoples views, although i think my mind is set on the sc46 but im open for other peoples views And opinions :)

Jura some good cases by there lol!

Can you tell me what the mdx321t is capable of maxed out as i beleive the sc46 is 460 or there abouts with all supporting mods, does that sound correct? As if i wanted to further my build and push for slightly more power would the md be able to give anymore?? Just thinking as if i did want to build a motor would i save me buying another turbo as i only ever wanted to acheive 500ish or there abouts and can say i wont be pushing for more as quite simply put, i cant afford to lol (well i could but it will take me effin ages to save)

Also i want it to be a good road car with instant power from the word go rather than lag which is what i have read about the md saying it does not come in to boost until later in the revs where as the sc46 spools lower down and off it goes! I know what ever turbo is in there it will have a degree of lag but i want the quickest spool rather than top end power! I would sacrifise a few bhp for better acceleration as you cant use the top speed on public roads ;) :thumb:

Cheers

jura11 02 July 2012 03:19 PM

Hi there

MDX321T should make 450bhp(at least) on V-power again depends on spec,on methanol depends on more factors(how much methanol, injectors etc),but should be making 480bhp upwards,in our case are limiting factor heads, with better heads like UK STi or JDM Big port heads we should be making on V-power around 460-470bhp and on methanol think is possible 500bhp

I've not seen dyno printout SC46 on 2.0L or 2.1L and due this can't comment how will perform on the 2.0 or 2.1L

Your engine should be OK for 450bhp and more,as you are read here Steve running on his standard internals 480bhp for few months without the problem

We are been in same situation like you are and we are went with Billet T,we are considered like SC46 or S206 from Enginetuner, but we are very happy with T,just think we should go with V instead

In therm of spool, spools great in any gear and with Harvey Up pipe should spool quicker

For 500bhp would go route V or S206 instead..As I said all depends what you are want.

I previously posted up a thread about the two turbos and most people say if I want a very decent road car, it would be the sc42, cos it will spool up much better than the 321t and 46, but I may end up building myself a 2.1L forged engine after Xmas, so that's why I choosing the 46. I wanna leave a little more room for myself to play with rather than purchasing another turbo next year!

Stevesbluewrx 02 July 2012 04:39 PM

I'm not 100% but sure I've seen a MD321T on 20% meth make around 510bhp.

I find the newer billet over non billet feel like night and day for daily use and faster spool.

Hi jura and thanks for reply, what is the main difference in the md321 range then between the T,V,S etc? I would be wanting the quickest spool as i say its for a road car.

Ken i have also asked about the sc42/46 and again have heard the same and to use the 42 for best responce, tbh i may still end up going this route but the only thing putting me off like u say is the fact that it will restrict me should i wish to extract a little more power from the motor or finaly build my 2.1, but looking at the md range they seem to be pretty responsive with proper mods to support and not a great deal of difference between spool times on this and the 46, looking at these figures on standard blocks people have posted i would say the md range is slightly ahead on powerwise, any other thoughts out there...............

Wayne STI 03 July 2012 02:54 PM

just a question, how do you correct hub dyno figures to compare to RR figures? I have heard of approx. 20% transmition loss between rollers and crank, but think that RR figures correct for this in the final printout and my hub dyno figures dont.

Also - does the same 20% apply for torque loss?

Here are my hub dyno stats anyway as I think I am pussing the limits?

Hi there

Billet T will be best for 2.0L or 2.1,V on 2.0L or 2.1L will be laggier than T,not sure how much,S is something between the T and V and this turbo is really laggy on the 2.0L or 2.1L,i've seen only on 2.5L where has been great, this turbo is no longer for sale from Lateral performance.

Really best is try to both turbo and compare them;)

Just been to scoobyclinic today for turbo n remap.. The original plan for the sc46 was scrapped n gone for the sc42.. The gaffer told me to keep off the 46 til I get my engine done as it will be slightly laggy. My car is now running very well, the car is now a healthy 386bhp/ 360lb tq with a spool up starting around 3000rpm! The gaffer said were maxing out on the ecutek map, so will be looking at the syvecs later on!
