Piston clearances and gasket advice please
 

Ok so im starting to think i have the wrong head gaskets,

Basicly one piston is making contact with with head so striped back down.

On the left bank using a flat rule and feller gauges put piston 2 and 4 at tdc and measured gap between piston and block on my feeler gauges they both read .011 and then done the same for the right bank and im getting .015
used the micrometer and gasket thickness was .020 not under compression of heads and torques , this is a multi layer steel gasket 3 layers from what i can tell . but i am unsure what thickness it should be, or now what thickness gasket to go for ,

Year of block? Std crank? Rods? Pistons? Heads you are using?

v4 block , v1 std crank , v1 std rods, v1 std pistons 92mm new acl bearings crank and rods new rings , v1 heads

Making an assumption here.

You have a 1995 wrx so if it is on the original engine setup you have an above deck block where the crown at tdc is above the deck. Subaru fitted around 1.3mm (dont hold me too that exact size) headgaskets, it will become quicker and easier if you fit the standard size.

It is usual to have different deck heights with the subaru engines, we blueprint them because everything turns out to be difference across the board.

yeah 1995 wrx but block was corroded so sourced another centre thrust block yeah the pistons crown above deck and the head gasket i was supplied with i think is to thin so im trying to get another one just there are so many choices !

Ok R stands for right and B is the size of piston, you have a B size in No3. No2 L for left and A size and so on.

V4 open deck block is an above deck block, std setup on your rest of parts. You need the thicker headgsakets and the OEM headgasket is good quality so get a pair of them. If you like the idea of running a certain brand of gasket then you need same size as OEM which is around 1.3mm.

What make of gasket have you tried using?

You have a A size in No3, typed it wrong.

Yes there are many sizes and brands, go for standard size budd and your probs solved.
