It's really coming on now Ian!
So are all the mounting points done now yeh?
Is there much welding left? And are you fitting a cage?

James

yes all mounting points done welding wise i have the floor to do it is now in position just a case of running down each side, i drilled the spot welds out on the subaru piece so i will plug weld those back up and do some seam welding,

Then i have some more seam welding i want to do and a bit of a tidy up around the back where i have noticed the welding was not brilliant as i was welding above my head... that should leave just the bulkhead and front panel area...

yes i will be getting a cage most likley going for custom cages multipoint, i need to just do some measuring before i order ot as they will leave some extra length on front and rear pickups.

my plan is to get the welding done and clean the underside and give it a paint then get it the right way around again and start looking at the cage i may burn through in a few areas of the new paint but that will be easy to touch up..

Don't forget the pictures.

Making progress but doesn’t look much different, I’ve started to go around cleaning the old stonechip/underseal off and seam welding some areas as I go… also tiding some of the welding ect…

Hopefully with a good push this weekend the underneath should be in paint in a couple of weeks :)

The floor is welded from the bottom now I still have some welding to do when it’s back on its wheels/stands along the sides of the floor and front inner arches.

Also had a test fit of the front suspension for clearance, looks pretty good

Got the underneath sprayed in top coat, looks almost made to fit now all one colour,

http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/car/car61.jpg

Rear cradle cleaned primed and couple of coats of smoothrite

http://www.ian-rachel.co.uk/car/car60.jpg

It may have a trip across the yard so I decided to build the suspension up and see what it looks like, and what I’m missing which good news is only a few bolts and washers.

Feels like a bit of a milestone

The tunnel looks low at the rear hopefully the prop will be ok but I sat the diff up quite high so using a straight edge it looks tight… so tunnel may need a mod.

JonMc 19 September 2012 01:55 PM

Great work - that is going to really catch a few people out:norty:

haven't really kept a log of hours just money!! but i was asked the same other day at work so i tried to backtrack i started off working on how many Sat & Sundays since i got the astra '70' then i have tried to think of other things i have done on a weekend,

so the estimate is 48 days

some days i do 6 or 7 hours some i'm helping others and only do a couple of hours,

One thing though i'm glad i'm not paying someone else !!

super_ted 22 September 2012 09:06 PM

Good stuff, keep going.

IanPaskin 23 September 2012 09:47 PM

Well I’m away for a couple of weeks so as the weather is starting to go downhill I decided to make it a bit more weather tight,

Roof Vent is now fixed in place will be sprayed with the car later.

Forgot how much weight is in the doors, some of that will have to come out…
