What's a PAC?

PAC code enables a customer to keep the same mobile number on the new with new mobile service provider. You get it off the cr@ppy mobile phone company that you are about to dump; that's if you want to keep the same mobile number. I have done it a couple of times. Once I went from one stupid company (I can't remember the company name) to another stupid t-Mobile. When they p!ssed me off, I asked them for the PAC code and went to stupid O2. Now O2 are p!ssing me off, so I may go to someone else. What I do see is that PAC code from O2 is instant, as the daughter dear got hers within two minutes of her talk with O2. Okay, she had to listen to some really bad tunes for about an hour before she could even talk to someone, but that's just O2 for you. They need to look busy, so even when their call-taker is twiddling his thumbs on his desk, he leaves people on hold with some really bad music. He hopes that you'd give fed up and eventually hang up, and then O2 can carry on with their rip-off contract. They are all as bad as each other, if you ask me. Pretty much like the political parties.

Where's that leg-endary thread about the 'oldest' phone contract. Pete started it and was flummoxed a few times on his 30p deal or whatever. One of the Scoobynet great found out threads.

You should try dealing with Orange/France Telecom for internet in France, a bunch of thieving, lying, cheating barstewards!

Don't usually have an issue with Orange.

Was going to move the Mrs away so got her to ask for the PACode and as usual they started on the why are you moving, can we convince you to stay routine.

Rather than have a 3 way (I wish) I took over the call and the first person I spoke to couldn't do a better offer than the website (Experia S for £100 plus some £15 a month tariff). Stuck to my guns and said thanks but we'll have to move. She puts me through to the next guy who offers a better tariff at the same price and the phone for £50. Job done.

I don't see the need to change providers and I find you can usually squeeze a decent deal out of them on the phone.

Orange have always been fine with me (12 years now)

Business now moved over from Vodafone as well (720 users) so must be doing something right

Orange seem ok for personal contracts but used to have a poor choice of phones and used to put their firmware on phones which I found tended to mess them up. Not looked at orange for personal accounts recently so may be better than they used to be.
Orange seem to be cheap for business (low costs) but I found them really hard and slow to deal with & resolve any problems so moved the company account back to vodafone.

Wasn't me - it was my daughter ...... I have an Orange Contract (the Virgin Contract) mentioned above ........ in that old thread - and, amazingly, I have just a month ago, swapped the old MR10 Motorola for my old PAYG Phone.

And I have upgraded my PAYG phone to an Orange Sydney ... can't really get on with it, to be honest.

Anyway, my daughters 2 year contract was up - Orange offered her a Nokia Windows Phone or a Samsung S3 to stay on the same contract ..... she chose the Nokia - it arrived, she gave it a week and hated it. She rang Orange who said she could swap for the S3 if she sent the Nokia back - which she did send back.

She rang Orange, who had now received the Nokia back and they said "no she can't have the S3 now", she could only have the S2 ...... the S3 would be £60 up front and then the old plan ..... she thought about it overnight and decided to go for it, even though Orange had moved the goalposts.

She rings Orange again ..... "No, they say" she now has to pay them £75 for the phone!!!!

So, she goes to town and gets a better deal with 3 ...... rings Orange last night - asks for the PAC - now, amazingly, the very original deal was offered to her to stay - the S3 FREE and her old contract renewed for 24 months (that's all she ever wanted!!!!)

I was with Orange, no problem getting a PAC, just rang them said I'd signed up for a better deal elsewhere, and my code was texted to me a few minutes later.

Sounds like your daughter has messed them around a bit though as they now have a Nokia Windows Phone that has been unboxed so they can only sell it as a refurbished job so seems reasonable to ask for some extra cash for the S3 so they can recover their losses on the Nokia, and now they've gone the extra mile and offered it to her for free despite the Nokia. Seems very reasonable to me and therefore what is there to complain about :confused:

BTW should have gone for the S3 in the first place, anybody could have told you it's an infinitely superior phone to the Nokia Windows job.

Had the same with T-Mobile. They put you to a 'customer retention specialist' who will agree to bend over and lube up if you like.

They offered me a selection of new phones, I said I'd try them and call them back which I did a few days later. They then decided they wouldn't offer me that particular model for free anymore and I just told tham I'd find someone who would.

That was 11am I think and at lunch, I walked round to one of the phone shops, got the deal T-Mobile had originally promised and called for the PAC number. suddenly they could do the deal again.

Told them to try again in two years and next time a they promise something, stick with it and when a customers says "i'm off" then take them seriously.

Seems to work alright down here,but then I rarely use the mobile phone anyway.

Why don't you get your daughter another SIM on that Virgin contract? Would save her a load of money. No, she wouldn't have a nice new shiney phone but if she really wants one, that can be got from eBay.

Yes, they will provide additional SIMs on that contract, I've asked.
