engine wont start after rebuild.
Hi all i had the bright idea to build my own engine i found a block in good condition with forged pistons and new crank from my friend flea bay so only had to bolt the heads on with new gaskets i followed the subaru guide for all torque settings and that fitted larger injectors unequal headers fully wrapped bigger turbo fmic hks dump and induction kit, apexi fc new plugs oil and that. Fitted it back in yesterday, and all it will do is try and start once then just turn over until the battery dies ive check everything the timing, injectors fuel had the plugs out to check the coil packs ive just hit a brick wall now any help would be great:confused::confused::confused:

Cam and cranks sensors reconnected?!
Did you take the heads apart? If so, you sure the cams have been put back correct? |
yer both connected checked all wires pulled them off and put them back on again. ive turned the engine over buy hand to make sure the timing hadn't skipped. i just don't get why if you leave it for a couple of hours and go to start it the car try s to start but then gives in really doing my head in :mad:

As jay says.
i.e... - Make sure the EX and IN cams are in the correct places. - Then also whether they are the correct way round i.e. not 180deg. out (IYSWIM). |

am i up against a timing issue now as i thought it was bang on with the marks

It could be the car needs setting up mapping wise now if it runs as if you have changed the injectors for bigger ones, put a different blower in there etc they should all be mapped back in to run correctly, maybe its over fuelling???

i no it sounds really stupid but you did time it correctly using the line at the back of the crank pully not the stupid little triangle thats on the front of it.
Only asking cos when i done my mates for the first time i did it wrong like that all the cams were fine with single line at the top and the doubles in the middle but the crank i set to the triangle and not the line car turned over fine no interferance but wouldnt start then i found out it had to be done to the line on the back of the pully and bingo fired straight up . :thumb: |

Get the timing belt checked by someone that know's what they are doing!
No dis-respect intended. Friend of mine got someone in the tuning business - none or very little experience of Subaru's, to fit the timing belt on his car. Both cams in one head were 180 degrees out. It ran and drove, of a fashion. :eek: Belt was refitted correctly, and it was fine. This was also on a self build/help from mates as he wanted to try for himself. That may well not be the total solution, but, it's certainly the first thing I would check. I'd then check that the injector plugs are the correct way round, more so on the N/S as the plug is the same for the cam sensor. |
