Is it possible to transfer a classic impreza engine in to a new age bug? Will it fit the loom and gearbox ok?

you will need the heads as the manifold set up is different

bottom end of the engine is practically the same as far as im aware could be wrong but see no reason why not as long as you have the heads:wonder:

99/00 engine will be a straight swap heads wise
earlier will need bug heads etc

As said above, the short engines are essentially the same, if you are going to swap heads, make sure if you are using an early engine-phase 1 93-95, to use 1.6mm thick headgaskets, phase 1.5 96-98 use 1.2mm, if 99-2000 then it's a straight swap as the heads are the same dimensions.

Sorry to drag up this thread from the past.

My mate's bugeye's engine just decided it had enough and sh*t 3 valves in the cylinder. Destroyed the bottom end and one of the heads. So we have been after a replacement bugeye complete long engine. However we need it done by Friday!!.

We can get our hand's on a good condition classic V5/V6 Engine .

Presuming if it's the long engine it will fit okay and will mate up okay

Use the inlet off the bugeye?? Presume then the rest of the engine is pretty much the same. Any advice would be appreciated

It will work.
Also swap the crankshaft sprocket over too (the one which operates the crank sensor and drives the cambelt). v5/6 used jecs fuel system. Newage used denso and they used different crank sprockets. Check the camshaft sprocket too (the one which drives cam sensor) this could be different , I can't remember. Just use your bugeye ones if they're different.

Easy to check/change those sprockets whilst you're checking the cambelt at the same time anyway.
