octane rating

just read a thread on fuel and ratings and thought foook had car for a week and have used unleaded fuel from morrisons and not sure what octane ive being using not done many miles as walk to work but looks like i should be using 98ron like it says in flap but im sure its 95 ron ive used HELP PLEASE.......

Bealescooby 11 June 2012 10:29 PM

buy a decent octane booster throw that in the tank should be ok

stedee 11 June 2012 10:35 PM

and use v-power or tesco 99 ron

tonka2 11 June 2012 10:38 PM

is it ok to use £30 in tank of 95 ron if driven steady ?

Stay off boost or risk destroying your engine. Put octane booster in like millers cv turbo and use v-power or tesco momentum in future.

marcevs72 11 June 2012 10:42 PM

Bung a bottle of octane booster from halfords in there and take it easy until fill up of Tesco 99 or vpower.

tonka2 11 June 2012 10:56 PM

i will drive reall steady till empty then use a 98ron...cheers lads.hope to good will be ok...reading book says can use 95 but reduces power and drivabilty..

marcevs72 11 June 2012 10:59 PM

Using 95 will cause det on boost and engine going bang.don't bother trying to find 98 just use Tesco momentum 99 or shell v-power.

MattyB1983 11 June 2012 11:53 PM

1. Run the tank down a bit and stick some V-Power in.
2. Take it steady until that's run down a bit and then top up with more of the potent stuff.
3. Nail it.....

I read somewhere (probably here) that it takes 3 tanks of v-power until all the low ron stuff is gone entirely.

It does. I'm certainly not arguing Mattys point as he's a mate on here, Bob Rawle said to me when mapping my Scoob that three full tanks of the good stuff is required to dilute the normal stuff enough to rid the chances of a fubared engine from poor fuel. In that time of three tanks you will be driving like miss daisy too, which on a td04 is fūckin' hard to do :D

MattyB1983 12 June 2012 12:33 AM

Yep yep, no doubt that after three tanks you'll be fine.

I may very well have been Bob who told me as well mate.

With all due respect, surely you must have had some clue as to what you were putting in the tank? At least it wasn't diesel!

MattyB1983 12 June 2012 04:05 PM

Still wouldn't give it the beans though until the crap fuel is all gone.

tonka2 12 June 2012 04:59 PM

I'm not going to but can't wait to get miller in tank piece of mind... Just didn't give it any thought

MattyB1983 12 June 2012 05:08 PM

I'd be filling to brim with V-Power too.

Probably need 2 bottles of miller cv turbo if he is filling the tank. I think one bottle only does 25 litres?

Don't use CVL too much if your car still has catalytic convertors:nono:

tonka2 12 June 2012 05:57 PM

I'm only planning on using miller once on wots in tank now bout 20ltrs then shall run her steady till petrol light comes on then shall fill her up with 99ron

Unlike the discontinued Octane Plus, Millers don't recommend continued use of CVL in cat equiped cars.

Learned something today. Did not realise that. :thumb:

MattyB1983 12 June 2012 06:46 PM

Just stick a bottle in and fill with V-Power. Run that to near empty and re-fill with V-Power again.
It'll be fine after that mate.
