She's Alive

Hi there everyone i put the WR1 back together and she started first time a little forged piston tick when cold due to 3.5 thou running clearanced on pistons (high expansion race pistons )but soon stops when warm and good oil pressure even with running in mineral oil (the s**t cheap stuff) seems so wrong but right for the piston rings to bed in nicely and it did not smoke at all .I just need to bleed the clutch and mot :thumb:

Take a look yourself

And all done by myself :D

Budgie 10 June 2012 09:45 PM

Nice one Ian, great to see you got it sorted
Just in time for the Uxbridge Show:noteworthy
Are you bringing yours to Bedford for a shake down?

mantazini 10 June 2012 09:46 PM

Have you rebuilt the engine yourself Ian?

IAN WR1 10 June 2012 09:55 PM

sorry pete i would love to track her but i have fully rebuilt it from crank outwards (with my own hands ) lol and i will be running it in the slow way :D i have even put some new gt spec headers on her (3 bolt uppie) im chuffed with what i have sorted .Brand new fully forged 2.1 stroker 92.5 rebore/mahle stroker pistons /manley rods/2.5 sti crank/race bearings so it should be safe for the md321t now :lol1: and not melt the pistons like before

Budgie 10 June 2012 09:57 PM

thanks M444GY :thumb: its only nuts / bolts / piston rings and block sealant :D
yeah it was fooked richard i had melted the bottom lip off one of the pistons and melted alloy was rubbed down the piston bore so the piston with no bottom lip(about an inch) was slapping around in its bore = knock knock knock

JonMc 11 June 2012 08:19 PM

Sounds like a top job Ian - gets me thinking, anyone got a cheap engine stand:norty:

i bleed the clutch today and it returns up on its own now all ready for MOT and then i can decat it again (its so quiet with them both on ) sports cat failed 1st year so i put a wrx second cat were prodrive put the decat pipe and it flew through the next year but i didnt get anything off my road tax bracket the next year

JonMc 11 June 2012 08:47 PM

It'd have to be in the dining room - never get anything done in the living room with Euro 2012 on:D

Great album Ian, looks like a lot of work has gone into this :thumb:

IAN WR1 24 June 2012 11:53 AM

i dont like my new engine already the cross hatching on the bores are smothing out and its got a little more rattly yes it does go when she warms up but not completely (forged race pistons :wonder:)its not as quiet as a standard engine and i dont like the puff of smoke it gives out at startup ( cold start )smoke clears straight away and does not smoke again and the oil pressure has dropped a little to 2.5 bar when hot but i am running millers 10/40 running in mineral oil (should i have put a standard engine in and detuned it :wonder: )

Just stumbled across this,

Ian, Please put some boost through it asap if you dont want to ruin your hard work. Get it mapped for some boost or those rings will never cut in and seal with next to no cylinder pressure.
You'll just polish the bores, lose power and use oil if you continue to pussy foot around with it.

Dont be scared, if it was going to go bang due to a build issue it would have done it well within 20 min of running.

Kind regards

Frayz

Hi frayz i reset my deffi's and the boost has peaked at .5bar but thanks buddy for you help do you have anymore helpfull addvice :thumb:

frayz 26 June 2012 10:21 AM

0.5 bar on the Defi will be slightly over what it's actually boosting to, but as long as its seeing something around that area it will be enough.
Don't give it boost for prolonged periods with the running in oil but as long as its seeing some cylinder pressure then it will be enough to cut the rings.

Do 50 miles on the running in oil and dump it. Then do another 200 miles on more running in oil. Then swap to fully synthetic and get it mapped.
My motor was under boost within 16 miles of start up.
Mapped for full power at 450miles.

You'll be fine this way Ian. Well done on your build by the way.
