Any tyre fitters, advice needed.
 

I had a blow out today on the n/s/r so the tyre is goosed.
The car is a 4x4 and currently on Pirelli's which have around 4mm of tread.
The Pirelli's are expensive, 270 each so with this in mind I was thinking of initially replacing the rear two with another brand and the fronts to match in due course. Is this a no no with it being a four wheel drive car?
If so I'll bite the bullet and replace the lot.

the main thing you need to worry about is that the 2 tyres on the same axle are of the same speed rating and load as each other so buying 2 for the rear and the other 2 later will be fine mate

imo unless your really pushing the car, or maybe off roading, a new tyre replecment for the blown unit would be fine alone.

if your going to be replcing the other side shortly anyway then do the pair, but 4 mm left is just half worn mate

4mm was a rough guess so I'll take a more accurate measurment and go from there.

Just to clarify, as long as the size, load and speed ratings are the same I should be ok with the existing Pirelli fronts and another new brand on the rears.

just change the one as long as it matches you will be fine, in 22 years of driving various cars I have never changed more than the tyre that needed changing and have never had any problems because of it. TBH I think it is just a thing that gets said to make people change tyres more.

yeah nik as long as there the same you will be fine as its an MOT fail and police if thye stop you and check things out will and can do you for it

yeah take a measuremnet, across central 3/4 of tread, and aslong as outsides not worn below 1.6 or showing any signs of steel or cord will be ok, largley.

if your concerned with optimum performance, and push the car maybe a set on the axle would be needed.

theres no law saying you have to use oem tyres manufactirer, although spec should be the same as oem.
