Import of a previously exported van?
 

About 3 years ago the company I work for exported a 2001 van to Holland for one of their guys to use in his role as a salesman. Yes, they get their money's worth from their vehicles.

This van has now just been brought back to the company's head office and I've bought it. I've had it MOT'd (against the chassis number) and want to sell it on.

Does anyone know what I need to do to get it re-registered on English plates? At present it seems to have some sort of paper export plates fitted.
I have been told by a mate that I need to get it insured and taxed before I can re-register it but I can't see how I can get it taxed without a reg number and I don't want the hassle and expense.
As it's sitting on my driveway and will stay there until it's sold it won't need insurance either (unless I have to tax it). In my ideal world I will sell it to someone who has the correct insurance to test drive it.

Anyone have any idea or should I just contact DVLA about it?

your best bet would be to get in touch with the DVLA and see where you stand on the matter and whats the best way to go about it all

DVLA have a reasonable website and are bound to have an appropriate 7 page form to complete, possibly all done on-line. Their helpline is also pretty good. dl

Talk to dvla you should be able to get the original number back again if you fill out the correct forms and MOT it

Is there any value in an 11 year old van given the running round you're going to have to do to get it ready?
