Idiot Abroad

Is idiot abroad real or is it all acting ? I think it's absolutly hilarous and always has me in stiches with his comments but I wonder how genuine it really is?

davegtt 09 June 2012 11:33 AM

Off course alot of it is play acting up for the cameras. Although I do believe he probably has a persona like that. Otherwise they probably wouldnt have come up with the idea in the first place.

Quality program though if just for the insight into the places hes visited.

JackClark 09 June 2012 11:34 AM

Cracks me up that's for sure.

Jamie 09 June 2012 11:41 AM

Have you been living in a cave rob? most is play acting saying that karl is a bit thick in real life.

The Dogs B******s 09 June 2012 11:44 AM

It's got to a acting but funny as fook

richie001 09 June 2012 11:46 AM

Definitely scripted but still funny.

Ant 09 June 2012 12:07 PM

Thought you was going to say you was booking a holiday robsy.

albob 09 June 2012 03:59 PM

ricky gervias is involved in this - so in the manner of the 'office'

mrmadcap 09 June 2012 08:19 PM

Yes, it's only top gear that's live, spontaneous and completely non scripted.

Snap, he's pretty bland IMO but he can write funny stuff if someone else delivers it.

Karl originally was Ricky Gervais' producer on xfm. If you get the older snippets of Ricky on xfm Karl started off making a comment every so often over time Karl actually became the reason people listened. Gervais exploited this by making the podcasts (much, much funnier than idiot abroad) which I think was/is the most successful podcast series.
Karl actually is that thick, well he actually has that slanted opinion on life. I'd imagine some is dressed up a little but gervais etc have actually been accused of scripting Karl since the xfm days.

Monkey News!!!!!!!!!!

PMSL :D

Kwik 11 November 2012 11:28 AM

Lol, monkey news just showed Karl's insanity. I'm moving house and bloody threw "happy slapped by a jellyfish" in the bin 😪

CrisPDuk 11 November 2012 11:45 AM

I work with someone who knows Karl's family, and he is apparently just as he appears on telly :thumb:

Obviously the situations are set up by Gervais & Merchant to get the best out of him though :)

I've never been a fan of Ricky Gervais, but I do like Idiot Abroad :thumb:

RobJenks 11 November 2012 11:56 AM

Love the show - Can't wait for 3rd series

RobsyUK 11 November 2012 04:38 PM

I think the 3rd series will be amazing. especially the little man

P1Fanatic 12 November 2012 01:23 PM

Yeah I have never found Gervais funny so never bothered watching it straight off but damn it is funny. And I must admit I do like Gervais & Merchants banter when they call his mobile "al right boy".

The one where the family have a hippo in the house. Karl is like "my dad wouldnt even let us have a dog in the house and they have a f****g hippo in the lounge" :)

fitzscoob 12 November 2012 01:25 PM

I dont think I have ever laughed as hard at the telly when Karl was wing walking.
