Just bought my first scooby (Silver MY96) and very very very happy with it. Been in several before but driving is the real thing!!

Only problem is Front discs are shot and need replacing. Want to save myself a few squid (to spend on other upgrades) by changing discs myself. As no Haynes manual is available for the impreza can someone give me some pointers. I know the general procedure but is there anything in particular to watch out for?

TIA

Rich

no probs.

put front of car on axle stands so it doesnt drop on you ;)

remove wheel
look at the bottom half of the caliper, on the inside face there is a bolt 12mm head.
undo and pull this bolt out.
caliper now hinges up, may need a tap (gentle) with a hammer.
when hinged up, slide towards the centre of the car, itll now come off.
support it as to not strain the brake hose.
pads will now slide off the other section (the carrier).
undo disc retaining screw(s) on the hub face, may be a pain.
remove disc at angle to clear carrier. (you may need to remove the carrier to get the disc off- is easy though, few bolts i think.

hope this helps. ian ;)

oh remember you'll need a tool to push the pistons back to fit the new (and hence thicker) pads in. DONT lever them with a piece of wood etc...seen this done a few times. the pistons will only seize eventually

you say the discs need replacing - replace the pads too if you can afford it....best thing to do.

edited to clear fields as Ian's explanation is much much better!
