Sat Nav ....

I've just had £500 drop into my lap and, rather than just add it to my savings, I want to buy something with it.

Looked at some watches .... not silly money, of course. Just a nice Sieko or Citizen.

Also, my TomTom is now about 8 years old ..... I find myself driving across fields (according to the TomTom) more often these days ... the maps are so far out of date - indeed the M4 actually goes all the way into Wales, instead of stopping at Maidenhead :lol1:

Anyway, I should have enough to buy a SatNav and a decent watch.

The watch I can choose myself .... the SatNav needs someone who has looked at the market recently ..... is TomTom still the best?

For example, my TomTom takes a full Postcode ..... I hear that some do not, even some TomToms? I don't want to give up what's good about my old one! The old TomTom batteries don't last long either now ... it would be false economy buying a new set of maps.

So, peeps ... TomTom? Garmin? NavMan? Anything else? Don't say smartphone because I haven't got one.

OR I could spend the money on a Tablet ..... iPad or Samsung?

Maybe you should invest in a hobby so we don't have to deal with your trolling?

:D

pslewis 04 June 2012 06:39 PM

Asking for advice on Sat Navs is now trolling????????????????????

Your Honda didn't come with a decent sat-nav Pete?

Cannon Fodder 04 June 2012 06:55 PM

Tomtom XXL v2, I think you can get then for around £129.

They have a 5" widescreen, postcode entry, advanced lane guidance, Western Europe and GB and ROI maps included plus you can update the map FOC within the first 90 days.

I believe you also get speed camera avoidance plus user map updates as well. :)

pslewis 04 June 2012 07:12 PM

Cheers CF .... user map updates? Can you explain that?

pslewis 04 June 2012 07:14 PM

This one?

Ant 04 June 2012 07:19 PM

I use the tomtom 120 with traffic hd, brilliant kit

pslewis 04 June 2012 07:21 PM

Traffic hd?

Cannon Fodder 04 June 2012 07:22 PM

The one above, user map updates are where the tomtom user base upload their map corrections for incorrectly routed roads, road speeds, and other errors.

I think Halfords did have them on offer plus the tv shopping channel Ideal World had them on a good deal as well. :)

Ant 04 June 2012 07:24 PM

Traffic updates every two minutes and it's never let me down

pslewis 04 June 2012 07:46 PM

Thanks CF ..... I'll take a look.

Ant - do you have a monthly fee to pay for traffic updates?

Boro 04 June 2012 07:51 PM

Battery life on my XL IQ is shocking!

Ant 04 June 2012 07:54 PM

Get a year free

Jamescsti 04 June 2012 08:58 PM

Why not just buy the updated maps off Tomtom for your current sat nav onto the SD card if your handset is still working ok?

scooby red 04 June 2012 09:12 PM

I hate satnavs . Blokes should know where they are going without some **** telling them

I refer you to the OP ..... my old TomTom batteries are dead - false economy to renew batteries and map on an old device.

Leslie 05 June 2012 04:12 PM

I keep on wondering whether getting a sat nav is really worth spending the money on. Never having had one I am not dependent on one of course.

Les

Jamescsti 05 June 2012 07:33 PM

I seem to remember being told with garmin Satnav's or at least certain models you get free map updates for life, a decent money saver in the long run.

stevebt 05 June 2012 08:07 PM

Sat nav £100 and spend the rest on beer and lapdancers :D

Tom Tom Replacement Batteries - first hit on Google, or is your Sat Nav on a Virgin tariff (like your phone, whose batteries still work ;) )?

You can afford a tenner can't you?

You do know about "Google" don't you?

Android Smartphone + CoPilot Live or use the free Google Maps navigation (pretty good as it goes) if you are a cheapskate.

Dedicated SatNavs are so last year, smartphones do everything now :D

Lord Marshall 06 June 2012 03:00 PM

Anybody bought one of those Chinese sat navs from eBay? 2 yr warranty all for £34.99 my bro needs one for taxi.I'm thinking of getting one.

Does it tell you where all the sheep are?

:D

ScoobyDoo555 06 June 2012 03:53 PM

Most satnavs come with a car adapter...... batteries are almost a moot point.

Get the updated maps, save yourself £150.

Pocket the dosh, and come back on here to gloat about how wealthy you want people to think you are.

It's all pretty standard now.

Unless you invest in a piece of kit that will (hopefully) go wrong, just so you can go through the motions of exercising your consumer rights and get it all sorted.

Again, pretty standard :D

Either way, it will keep you entertained, watching Scoobynet's population wind themselves up in knots. :D

:D

I have a Tomtom One XL and its never let me down, had a new battery but its as new.

BUT I do feel the need to upgrade to the TomTom Go 7150 PRO Truck, as I now drive vehicles that would help me a fair bit.
