Windows 7 won't shut down

Need help please. Running windows 7 64 bit. It has developed an annoying problem in that it won't shut down or go to sleep. When it goes to shut down it just re-starts again. When it goes to sleep it just again, re-starts then freezes.

Any Ideas please?

Many thanks, Kev.

If you google this issue there are many many reasons people have found that cause it from a driver crashing to anti virus software being responsible to updating their bios.

How long has this been happening? If it just recently then you could roll back to a system restore point to before it started happening to see if it goes away.

Started last week. I have updated all my drivers Anti Virus etc but to no avail  Completely run out of ideas now,

If it started last week then I would suggest using System Restore to restore your system to around 10 days ago.

Yep, Have done this twice now but no success.

May have to nip it down to the local Puta repair place.

Frosty what Maiboard is it Nforce ?

Boot into safemode and just try it from there, ( On boot press F8 ) does it shutdown ok then ?

If so unistall your network Card and disable it. try then

ted

If you find the above does work get the latest and greatist driver for the network card and it should fix it.

Sorry to gate-crash this thread but I have a similar problem which I haven't been able to fix yet. I'm also running Windows 7 on a recently purchased Dell refurb laptop and it won't shutdown. It will hibernate and sleep just not shutdown. It performs the shutdown but after a few seconds boots up again.
It seemed to start after I did an update to Windows mail but even if i uninstall it it still occurs.

I had this problem as well. Pc would just not shut down or go to sleep . Tried system restore and searching the error logs to no avail. In the end I removed img burn (recently updated) and all is fine now.

Going to have a day trying to sort the thing today before it gets thrown in the skip! I will go through all the advice which has been suggested. Many thanks all. :)
