At what point is a remap required...
OK,
I thought I posted this earlier in the week but maybe finger trouble struck me.. How far can I go before Im throwing money at nothing and need a remap. edit.. for my 2002 WRX wagon :) /edit Basicly the places that are close'ish (<4hrs drive) a remap costs stupid cash for 4hrs work. At what point does good advice say basicly stop there cos your wasting money or poss damage something.. Currently 2.5" cat back HnS exhaust + KnN panel filter. Im my list of things I would like to do are... Decat up pipe, Prodrive down pipe, (inc cat) fit my HnS centre de-cat pipe Unequal Headers (Japspeed spec 2) Anything obvious Iv missed thoughts welcome please Vik |
Hi :)
What model/year car is this on? Tony:) |
Tony,
a 2002 bugeye WRX UK wagon ty. |
decat up pipe = map most of the time.
It's difficut to say 100% because different cars react differently to mods. |
sports cat and system with panel filter and walbro pump about as far as you can go on later classics before mapping needed

Hi Vik
Personally i would go with down the road as you suggest plus HRC 255lph Fuel pump, but i would don't fit Japspeed headers, with those headers you will loose spool, personally i would have look for Harvey Up pipe and his ported headers, which will help you in therm of spool and some gain on side of the torque too If you will be OK drive to your mapper, yes if you will keep off the boost until remap Jura |
Or get the mapper come to you?
|
Thanks all,
As you can see Im currently not in UK and dont have plans to drive this car back to UK to get it mapped, local place (2hrs away) wanted 800€ (650ukp) for a 4hr session. I wont get approval for that from the long haired general. Whilst a set of 'Harvey' headers might be cost effective in UK, I would need to look long n hard at the shipping costs for such a heavy bit of metal. So I may have to cut short my uprade plans for the Subaru, all my budget this year is going into my Caterham. ??? can I run a de-cat down pipe and still pass emissions test with ONLY the cat in the up pipe?? as I have a HnS down pipe and centre de-cat pipe not installed as I guessed this would not be OK for local MOT (katsastus test), same CO % etc as UK. Cheers Chris |
Forgive me if iam wrong but,,,,, Does unequal headers lose the subaru burble ? if so thats criminal ...:(

The OE headers are unequal. This is the very reason for the Subaru burble. Fitting equal length tubular and the car sounds more like a Jap motorbike rather than the offset burble from the 2 litre Subaru.

welcome back harvey...quick question how much for set of headers and up-pipe???
got 2.1 being built at enginetuner soon and running sc42 hopefully and after headers.cheers |

QED 45's direct to head throttle bodies, linkages, ITG full filter, DTA S40 ECU + custom loom inc CANBUS, 4:1 long primarys, lowered floor. it all adds up. I could get away with 3-400€ for a remap.. but this place wants 800€. like wtf.! |

got 2.1 being built at enginetuner soon and running sc42 hopefully and after headers.cheers Around the SC42 you are at a dividing line between fitting ported headers and matched uppipe or going for GT2 Spec Tubular headers with the trick uppipe. There is also the consideration of cost. On an exchange basis, ported headers, dressed and DEI heat wrapped with a matching stainless steel, slip jointed, purpose designed uppipe with five new Subaru studs, all DEI heat wrapped is £369. Delivery £12.50 and you have three weeks to get your old headers back to me. There are actually six uppipes in this range and I select the most suitable uppipe for your turbo and application. If therw was any possibility of going further than 420 bhp I would seriously look at the GT2 Spec headers along with my trick 3 bolt uppipe which gives great response and early spool. Everything is DEI heat wrapped. The headers and slip jointed to help prevent cracking at the collector and the uppipe has five new Subaru studs. This however is an expensive option £699 plus £12.50 delivery outright. The trick uppipe on its own is £149, slip jointed, heat wrapped, five new studs and there are two uppipes in this range and I will match the appropriate uppipe to your spec. If you want more information or want to talk this through drop me an email per profile and include your phone number. Cheers, Harvey. :thumb: |
