Rear fog not working?

For some reason the rear fog light on my wagon wont work. I have changed the bulb but still no luck. Also the switch won’t push in and hold like the front fogs do. I presumed it must have been working for them to put a new MOT on it from the money grabbing baskets garage I bought from but then they also passed it with a broken headlight lenses so not sure.

Any ideas?

have you got the lights switched on before you press the button ?

MR2Mk1 28 May 2012 01:29 PM

Yep all lights work front fogs sidelights rear lights but no rear fog?

Don Clark 28 May 2012 03:14 PM

Have you checked, amongst other things, the rear fog light relay?? and more than one fuse is involved..............

No, what he's asking you is: are you checking if it's working or not WITH THE HEADLIGHTS SWITCHED ON because it doesn't work without them?

Well tried with all lights on and engine running. The dash switch lights up but the rear light doesn’t so will look for fuses next if I know where to look. Pity these cars don’t have Haynes manuals since no idea where to look for problems without a guide half the time.

Is it a classic?

MR2Mk1 29 May 2012 12:27 PM

Yes year 2000 Classic wagon.

OK, try the fusebox located under the coin tray, driver's side: fuse 10, 4th from left, middle row.

Take it out and check it properly with a fuse tester, multimeter etc if it looks OK.

If it IS OK, use a circuit tester, multimeter, etc to check that the lamps at the rear are getting a feed. DO NOT rely on LOKING at bulbs, always check with multimeter, wire across battery etc.

have you tried replacing the bulb ? if the light on the switch is illuminating Id try the bulb next.

Don Clark 29 May 2012 10:30 PM

And have you checked the relays working??

Where do I find the relay?

I have changed bulb and fuse and still not working so guess next bit to look at is the relay. Unfortunately don’t have Multi meter or circuit tester so can’t test with them.

It's B131 on here..............

And from my previous link there are three fuses to check..................

Blimy I take it it's dashboard out job to get the relay by the looks of the picture. Also I guess its fuse numbers 26 15 23 I need to check since not overly clear on wire diagrams.

Well as you supposedly have front fog lights I'd check No9 (10A), and No15(10A) on the fuse board inside the car, and No23(20A) in the Main Board under the bonnet .

I suspect the relay will be in the lower section of the centre console or just under the drivers side dash.

B130 is the clock, B119 is the cigarette lighter and B120 is the Radio.
B32 is the turn and hazard module, B121 is the Radio ground.

B75 B76 are the green test connectors
B78 is yellow datalink connector

I have this exact same problem on MY04 wagon. I've changed the bulb twice, switch works in dash, light on dash comes on to say it working but nothing. Have checked the fuse in dash which is ok. Any one know where the relay is on an 04 blob? I would have thought the dash light wouldn't work if this had gone tho?

Have you checked the lighting connector for any wiring corrosion?
Is there no live at the lamp connector? Is the earth path OK?

Lighting connector is fine, no corrosion at all. I have no live, earth is good.
