Over boost 2 bar 53sti

Today my sti started to over boost and my defi was reading over 2 bar the car has supporting mods and running 360bhp where should I start looking to cure this

How does it drive ? I would expect over 2 bar of boost would cause a fuel cut out making it drive really bad. If it's driving fine then maybe your gauge is playing up. Can you plug in a OBDII tool and read actual boost that the ECU sees via the MAP sensor.

It drives ok you can feel it pulling more than usual once I relised what it was doing I stopped driving it on boost on a side note i have noticed that i need to replace a few vacuum hose butt they are all the 3mm ones but there ok at the min

could be the boost solenoid has failed.

howellsy42 27 May 2012 08:49 PM

Would that bring up a engine management light because at the mo the light isn't on?

KAS35RSTI 27 May 2012 08:53 PM

2bar! Like a BOSS!

BrownPantsRacing 27 May 2012 08:55 PM

Contact your mapper and ask a few questions. Do you know what max boost it was mapped at?

howellsy42 27 May 2012 09:23 PM

Yeah had the car since November has be running 1.5 bar but the other day it just started running at 2 bar most of the work was done before i got it and scoobyclinic fitted most of it but there miles from me so I'm waiting to hear back from zen hopefully it can go to them in a week or two and there is a few other bits that i want doing but would be nice to solve this so I can use it

BrownPantsRacing 28 May 2012 10:45 AM

Is your car still running the standard map boost sensor or is it fitted with an uprated 3 bar map sensor? If it’s the standard sensor then 1.5bar over a long period of time may have been a little too much. Might be on the way out. Might be best to upgrade & remap.

Also, i'd trust what the Defi gauge says.

howellsy42 28 May 2012 05:20 PM

I'm not sure what map sensor it has how would I check this?

BrownPantsRacing 28 May 2012 05:50 PM

Not something I have looked into myself so can not advise where it is and how to check it sorry. Would suggest contacting Scoobyclinic, they might have a record of what was fitted when it was mapped and may have other suggestions of what might be wrong. Give em a ring.

I suspect the boost control pipes have come off or have a split.

Check turbo smal diameter pipes are all on and no splits

howellsy42 28 May 2012 09:17 PM

I found one that had perished that I think it went from the two port boost solenoid to the actuator So I sorted that put its still the same i think I need to buy a load of piping and just redo the lot I've ordered so 3mm what other sizes are there ?.

Jolly Green Monster 28 May 2012 09:21 PM

that should do it, there is a metal pill in the pipe between compressor cover and Tee piece, make sure it is not blocked and place it in new pipe

howellsy42 28 May 2012 10:00 PM

Ok il check that pipe as well tomorrow thanks for your help

howellsy42 29 May 2012 09:05 PM

Problem solved pipe that goes into to lower nipple on the turbo had a split so just ordered a few meters of 5mm to replace all of that as well thanks for every ones help

Jolly Green Monster 29 May 2012 09:13 PM

cool, just make sure you transfer the metal pill in to the new hose if still on a 2port (Tee piece fitted between hosed on the turbo)
