Newage ecu reader help....
My newage MY04 wrx wagon has thrown up the orange engine warning light today, as i plan on keeping it for a while i'd like to invest in a code reader for it. So, what are people using? Recommending? I only need something basic to read the codes so i can go from there. Shame they are not as easy to read as my classic :wonder:

Elm 327 cable from ebay and a copy of something like proscan will do grand. I have one of them as well as my tactrix cable and it works fine with the copy of proscan that came with it.
|
you can buy bluetooth ones off ebay and do it through your mobile ;)
|
I use one of these, no problems with it after nearly 3 years.:thumb:

I have a reader you can borrow if you live anywhere near me !!! And it's free as your a fellow scoobynetter :-)
Since I bought it I used it once ,but word got about so now I charge £10 a time ,cheaper than a garage lol |
That's very kind of you mate but i'm in Oxford, so a little too far. Thank you all the same.
Where about's is the port in the car? |
The OBD port is underneath the steering column. Just stick her head down near the pedals and you'll see it.
|
I got it, cheers.

I use a scangauge...not the cheapest but reads the ECU codes temps, revs, mph etc :)
|
I use a Scangauge II too
|
I heard a rumour that the scan gauge only works on uk cars and not jdm, can anyone confirm this as was thinking of one myself but if it doesn't work with a 2005 jdm then I will be wasting my money.
As for reading codes I have a tactrix cable and can read them with that no problem. But again not the cheapest option, but I can run logs in romraider as well. |
Anyone used this ECU reader?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-02-...item259324a245 A warning light has just popped up on the dash of my 06 WRX hawk :-( Any help or other options would be very much appreciated! Cheers Tom |
eek 23 quid?
Do you have a laptop or smartphone? You can buy much cheaper variants that will come with the appropriate software or you can download the app for a couple of quid (ie torque) |
£23 quid is annoying but I was thinking it would be easier than battling with software?
Also I only use apple and i'm new to ECU fiddling. I don't mind spending the money on one of these devises as long as it gives me the fault code or codes. I figure its cheaper that going to a garage? Thanks Tom |
You can get a wifi ODB2 reader instead of Bluetooth if you're an Apple user. For the first time I had an engine check code and used my cheap £7 ODB2 reader with the free version of Torque to read the code, fix the issue and clear the code.

Got that one above ^^^ Now just to wait for the postman! Hopefully there wont be something horribly wrong with my Scoob! Cheers Tom |
i use one of these with the fone app:

used it on most of the cars at the office with no hassles as well. handy for knocking out codes or checking things over. |
