Removing classic mechanical clocks / odometer

Hi all,

A bulb has gone out in my clocks on 96 pre-facelift dash Impreza, I've taken the cowling off and go to the point where the clocks should slide out.

However something is holding it in place (definitely taken all screws out), I'm guessing the speedo cable? I can't slide my hand round the back to undo any cables as there isn't enough space.

Tips on what I'm doing wrong?

It has 4 screws holding it in and if iirc had to squeeze my hand behind the dash and just unplug the speedo whilst scraping the hell out of my hand and lots of swearing, the same went for refitting the bloody thing :lol1:

Think I managed to get my hand in from the top of the dash and manged to unplug it but that was quite a few years ago so maybe wrong.

Do you know someone who has smaller hands as they may be able to squeeze in without ripping their skin off?

As above - be prepared to loose lots of skin. I have found the easiest way to get the speedo cable is to lie on your back awkwardly on the drivers floor and reach up from under the dash. That way you can remove the speedo cable without stretching it too far.

You will have to navigate past all the wiring under the dash but there is a pretty reasonable gap to get at it. I just did mine tonight :)

Thanks for the advice, got it done in the end...horrible job to do!

Lost a bit of skin off my knuckles lol

I assume you replaced ALL the bulbs then? For an outlay of about £5, save yourself the trouble of having to do it again?
