Brembo fitment query
 

Hi, do the front brembo calipers bolt straight on a newage to replace the standard 4 pots,
Oh and of course with the brembo discs which I know will, just after query on caliper, I don't need a fitting kit etc do I ?:thumb:

Yes they will bolt straight on , you just need to check they will clear the spokes of your wheels , but as I have seen you have our 335mm kit with the standard Subaru 4 pot calipers , these will work better than the Gold STi set up as long as your calipers are free with no sticky pistons , you will drop down in disc size running the brembo's.

As your friend had the same issue's running the brembo's , I would suggest going up to the orangestuff pads as your driving style is finding the limits of the blue's , there is nothing wrong with the brake kit you have fitted

Glad you read my earlier post on Aztecs thread, Im still deciding what the problem could be as I know these are a good set up, just find they fade when driven hard on downhill roads etc, like this weekend when they were pushed to the limits.
It's the overheating that's the problem with pads etc ndx blue. They don't work as good as they should.
I have ds2500 as spares just wondering how long they will last before fade?

You will need to make sure you have the 4x bolts & washers that came with the brembo calipers as you cant use the subaru 4 pot WRX bolts, different thread & bolt size. Otherwise, yes they will bolt on.

As Ian says above, make sure you have Brembo friendly wheels. Not all wheels will accomodate Brembo's! :thumb:

Yes I have 2 sets of sti wheels, so no probs there.
As Ian say don't think I need them just researching the possibilities of brake fade when upto high temps. Thanks

Was it definately pad fade and not fluid ? Was the pedal going soft , or was the pedal staying hard but not stopping the car ?

Yes the pedal went soft,prior to that I got the juddering type feeling were the gas was escaping from the grooves. pulled over to let them cool and the brakes stunk. Then when cooled they were back to normal.
Put 5.1 fluid in about 5 months ago. Not sure on make.:thumb:
Could it be the quality of fluid, is there a particular fluid I should be running?

If your pedal went soft , that's generally a fluid issue , if you drive hard a lot , or do track days , its always worth while giving them a quick bleed to get fresh fluid into the calipers every few months as its here where the fluid gets it worse , on the last rally I did , it was a hot day and we had to bleed the brakes after every stage it was getting that hot , had the same problem as you were the pedal was going soft.

Most dot 5.1 fluid is up to the job of most drivers , if its not up to the job of your driving style then some of the racing fluids would be more suitable

pulling over to cool brakes is a bad move, just drive lightly for a few miles and allow to cool naturally..............

cant comment on your pad choice but i would also suspect there is a rear brake issue (too small / not working correctly / etc.??)

on fluid your probably not running anything "good enough"........the dot5.1 moniker is NOT any guarantee of performance its simply an ABS approval rating

Cheers guys for that, any reasons to why the brakes stunk when pulled over? Or could it of just been the heat?
Stockcar what fluid would you recomend as I am a crazy hard driver lol.
And Ian I think your right, if I drive hard quite often, which I do.(but not done trackday yet) then I can understand the fluid going bad in the calipers.
Although my brakes still worked, just not as much bite in them.
I'm going Cadwell soon so I would like to eliminate problem by then.

walk past a fire and it will warm your arm, stand in front of it and you will get burned.............
same as why your brakes smell when you have them red-hot and simply pull over they become super heated

fluid wise then sounds like you need RBF600/660 or Performance Friction "RH665" as the ultimate...........

As the ones above you need race fluid. I bought the Performance Friction fluid but haven't tested it yet. I have ATE Super Blue Racing in the system right now but I'm changing to the Performance Friction next week.

just been thinking overnight, and for example if my rear bakes are sticky, I.e not working correctly, could this take it's toll on the front brakes, I.e to why I had faded them out?

Because I have everything fitted that should be right! :confused:

yes that would certainly impact as the fronts would have to do more work on their own......

Right then I need to rule this out first then,
Am I right in thinking that if I strip my rear pads out and press pedal and see if the pistons are moving in/out freely and not staying in one position is the best way to check?
Or can you advise me otherwise.
