2.1 stroker engine???? Where to go

I'm after changing my engine in blobeye sti.. How much is stroker engine and what would I get for my standard engine?? Only done 30k

360ste 20 May 2012 10:24 PM

Scoobyclinic in Chesterfield abot 70 miles from Manchester, £4100 ish.

Rbon91 20 May 2012 10:27 PM

What about gearbox? You need to change that? And do scooby clinic do px for standard engine? Cheers

360ste 20 May 2012 10:34 PM

You have the six speed so is okay. Looks like you need a bit more info so here goes. With a 2.1 stroker build you are replacing the crankshaft, bearings, connecting rods and pistons. The block and heads are your originals unless they are badly damaged.
http://www.scoobyclinic.com/products...components.htm This link is to a page on Scoobyclinic at the bottom it shows a picture of a stroker kit. The price shown is for the kit only.

Ok great thanks.. Is there straight power gain from this or you still need bigger turbo, injectors ect? Thanks

Brun 20 May 2012 10:38 PM

What are your power aspirations?

Rbon91 20 May 2012 10:43 PM

400-450bhp be happy with that. Have 2005 wide track sti atm running 320bhp but wanting more power maybe just have it as track toy

Brun 20 May 2012 10:49 PM

Personally, if it is a toy then i would bang a new turbo on and have a remap and replace the engine "if" it pops. I'm sure someone will be along who knows more than me but i thought the STi engines were fairly safe around 400bhp????

Rbon91 20 May 2012 10:54 PM

Yehh looking at the sc46tubo, 840cc injectors, 3 1/2 inch full decat exhaust system so should do 400bhp easy with that.

New_scooby_04 20 May 2012 11:02 PM

Have a word with David at APi.

360ste 20 May 2012 11:21 PM

My bug STi is running 440 brake on standard internals. Have replaced the turbo, exhaust, fitted a FMIC, 740cc injectors and GEMS ecu along with a uprated fuel pump. With a 2.1 I hope to be over the 500 mark.

TonyBurns 20 May 2012 11:34 PM

You dont need 4-450bhp as a track toy, tbh look at the suspension/handling setup if you just want to track this car, power isnt top of the list, chasing figures is the worst thing you can ever do on one of these cars.
You will be ok with a remap and a panel filter, that should put you around 350bhp, then do the suspension, that will make a much better "sorted" track orientated car than a 450bhp 2.1 without the suspension setup (and you will find the 350bhp more usable ;))

Tony:)

Dave-W- 20 May 2012 11:36 PM

my 05 sti is on standard internals with mdx321t injectors air intake ect and still got top mount find out the final figures tomorrow when mapping is finished and expecting a safe 420+bhp i have been nipping about in it on 1st map running about 390bhp and feels great
running super rom mafless see link below :thumb:

enginetuner built mine, amazing service and its running amazing 450bhp

jura11 21 May 2012 12:57 AM

For track i would suggest as above suspension, brakes too plus good wheel alignment and about the 2.1 would speak to Alan or MartynJ@enginetuner or Paul Finch@Finch Motorsport
Our engine build Neil@Slowboy racing and we are very happy

I know the SC46 spools good around 400/450bhp not to sure what kind of spool you would get around 350bhp. You might be disappointed with inner city runs with full spool at around 4000rpm give and take a little. If you’re looking around 350bhp i would probably go with another turbo unless some of the lads here are running something slimier and can advise you on what kind of boost they running.

Even the 840cc injectors they are capable of running over 650 horses depending on your fuel pressure.

In my personal opinion anything over 400bhp i would forge the internals.

I would get the right mods according to what kind of goal you’re looking to achieve on the bhp. And i would defiantly look in to other things like transmition, suspensions, and brakes like most lads on has suggested for track day.

Ok thanks for advise

craigyp 21 May 2012 02:29 PM

I'm running 429 on standard internals on my o5 sti with mdt on which is soon being sent away to have billet wheel fitted :)

Rbon91 21 May 2012 03:28 PM

You running on standard injectors?

I cant answer for the guy youve asked. But is highly un-likely to have standard injectors at that bhp. I run about 390 on a standard engine, but bigger injectors and turbo

Rbon91 21 May 2012 05:41 PM

Ok thanks. What the injectors like to change?? Had a look the looking like a absolute ******* to do
Cheers

360ste 21 May 2012 08:27 PM

When it comes to replacing the injectors it is a good idea to fit a parallel fuel rail setup so the injectors get a more even fuel distribution. As the OE are connected in series so there is a un-even fuel distribution.

Rbon91 21 May 2012 08:29 PM

Ahh rite thanks. What the injectors like to fit?

trainer 21 May 2012 08:42 PM

The 2LTR will run 400+bhp on standard internals no problem I have 05sti its been make 448bhp 408 torque for the last 15k miles I run owen development turbo 650 injecters greedy front mount equal headers 100cel CAT perrin big maf pipe
But to run this power you will need to upgrade suspension and brakes to get the most from it I run Exe-tc coil over Perrin anti lift and white line bars PF disc and pads on HEL lines
The cars drives better than at standard STI off boost with plenty of off boost grunt All work done on mine by Richard Bulmer at Tracktive Solutions I would recommend Tracktive to anyone there attention to detail is second to none
