Vehicle Trackers

Are they a waste of time? What do you think?

They cost several hundred quid and if you car is recovered it has probably been thrashed to death and very much abused, plus will be worth a lot less.

They arnt a waste of time for new cars, because thieves nick the car and park it up for a week to see if the police find it. That is when the tracker can get you your car back.

Yeah but now it's a Cat D I thought, plus the Thief might have ragged it majorly or changed down to 2nd gear at 80 mph or God knows what.

madmarx 18 May 2012 08:57 PM

Yeah thats a fair point, most people wouldnt want their car back unless it had only moved a few streets away.

dawesy 18 May 2012 09:35 PM

yeah subsciption is like £115 a year for mine so you need to save more than that so like peter i havent renewed mine.

tony de wonderful 18 May 2012 09:37 PM

That's a lot of money. Who said crime doesn't pay!

peter zippy reid 18 May 2012 09:47 PM

If my insurance was going down a good bit i would activate it but for £10 i dont want the car back if its stolen

That is a good point mate. I am gonna ask my insurance company how much the tracker saves on overall price of insurance because mine will be up for renewal & they want a fee of 149/year or £350 for the term of ownership

If a opertunist thief takes the car chances are yes it will be ragged within a inch of its life then dumped or crashed and probably burnt out.

If a proper thief takes the car chances are they will not rag it away from where it was stolen (raises suspision plus lots of noise) plus they want max resale value so will probably just drive it normally then park up somewhere out the way and leave it a few days to check for trackers then get it out the uk or strip it for parts, or they could save time and look for the tracker as its only going to be in 1 of a few places that the fitters put them in

peter zippy reid 18 May 2012 10:25 PM

I found my tracker by accident it was in a very easy place to get at it

richie001 18 May 2012 10:53 PM

Wouldn't BlackJax5 be a better option then tracker anyway.

Budgie 18 May 2012 11:02 PM

the Metasat system seems to be a good one
if the car moves you get a text message
You then reply with the immobiliser code
the car then shuts down and texts you it gps co ordinates
You go along and if the coast is clear, recover your car
If not, call the police

stedee 19 May 2012 12:17 AM

i thought a bout a tracker until the insurance co, said its not worth it lol.
wasnt there a post on here about a guys tracker subscription running out and they wouldnt let him renew it when the car was stolen so he couldnt get it recovered, not impressed , withholding info from the police

Someone on here said their insurance company was actually going to increase their premium if they used a tracker :cuckoo:

I very much doubt that

I have fitted Trackers to cars from Motorhomes to Porsche BMW Audis Evos Scoobys Mercs you name it

If you love it then do it its not about insurance ( well sometimes it is )

In the past 10 years of fitting them i have had 5 Cars returned to there owners

as posted they are parked up for a day or two then if not collected ther are fair game

You do forget most cars need Keys to be taken and most are stolen from the house
or if towed away the tracker will notify the tracking company the car is moving without ignition also if battery is disconnected or getting low

its not all bad news they do what they say on the box

if my house could move id have a tracker on it

Dont forget your car is your second most expensive purchase you will make

But most see extra expense like Trackers / Alarms as well not needed till you go out next morning and there is an extra parking space and no car

Oh my a horrible feeling i have been there not nice

Regards Ian
