Going to look at one today, any common problems with the engines/gearboxes or just any problems in general?

Going back two or so years a chap i worked with had one from new, it developed a piston problem at around 60k miles (he was not mechanically minded so could not tell me exactly what went wrong) just out of warranty, mitsi where not interested, cost somewhere in the region of £4k+ to fix at a dealership. Common problem apparently!

What sort of weight are you planning to tow and do you need 4wd?

Have you considered an Audi A6 2.5TD available 2&4wd or a 525/530D?

I used to get 30+ mpg out of my old one.....was a 06 pram one, older ones are bad on mpg's

Can be tappety noisy buggers aswell

Cheap to tax though :D

Will be a car trailer and my track Impreza, so about 2000KG.

But obviously i want to be legal and have a gross train weight that is fairly high, over 4000KG

A chap i used to do a lot of work for said of all the 4x4's the mitsubishi was the worst, and his firm had tried them all, Isuzu denver, came out top for quite a few years, i think the older nissan pickup has the largest towing capacity but are a bit aggracultural and thirsty.

I have had a 3.1 trooper for 6 years and it's never missed a beat,but they are getting on a bit now, you could also think about a van like a toyota hiace, again i had one and did 70,000 miles, only things i replaced were tyres and one set of brake pads, loads of room and you can kip in the back.

Toyota Landcruiser, buy well and you won't loose much either

I have a 60 plate warrior with leather and the power upgrade to 176 bhp.Around town get 27-32 mpg on a run at 75mph get upto 37 mpg.Had to have 3rd gear syncro done at 15k miles under warranty but apart from that very good vehicle.If you can go for a later one 59 plate on I think they have an engine upgrade and long beds and are more economical .

Get yourself a Navara or Hi-Lux :thumb:

My Father has a Toyota Hilux Invincible and before that had an older Toyota Hilux. Very reliable trucks and he hasn't had any problems with either. They are much bigger than an L200 and arn't as common either. Plus IMO, the Invincible looks much better. :)

From what i have gathered as a common type of issue, the Navara and L200's just seem to have engine issues and clutch issues.

The Toyota Hilux seem to run for ever, but that comes at an extra cost.

I'm only looking to spend £5-7000 on the correct vehicle,whether it be a van or 4x4.

I'll check Landcruisers out, Toyota seem to be very reliable.

'tis true, when working in the middle east the Landcrusier was the weapon of choice, Lotsof Range Rovers but they lived in the cities - bit like the UK really.

My boss had a 06 one, very reliable. 170K and it's now in Cyprus at his villa. When I used it afew times I thought it was small in side and not very comfy. Just my view buddy, they have prob changed now tho.

I had a high miler navara couldn't fault it

My L200 does 35mpg just bumbling about and can get it well into the 40's on the motorway. Only fault I had with mine has been broken rear leafs, but both were replaced FOC by Mitsubishi..

+1 for Landcruisers.A 95 onwards 80 series LC can picked up within your budget i think.
