VF34 or VF35

Which is best....

The car is a WRX 2006 with supporting mods.

Is the VF35 worth more pennies? Best price for the VF34 is around £900, best price for the VF35 is £1100...can anyone do any better new?

are you looking at buying new at that price ?

if so why ?

just sold my 70,000 mile vf35 for £300 which had no issues and was making 359bhp on my 2005sti:thumb:

As above why buy new? For that money you could have a much nicer turbo I'm sure.

Can get as new VF34 for £600 or new for £950 + vat
VF34 is better than VF35

TD05 16G is another Shout, My 57 wrx made 346 bhp/401 ftlb, 1 bar at 2700rpm...

Vf34 is better IMO ball bearing turbo, think rob day may have one with delivery miles on it.

my old bug wrx had a VF35 with pink injectors and sti tmic and was mapped to 340, was awesome to drive, would pull right up to the redline:D

my new blob wrx has a std td04, but have just bought a VF34 plus pink inj + sti tmic for it, will be fitting at end of month, interested to see how much earlier it spools than the VF35.:norty:

If you want exact specs talk to midnight on here, what he dont know about these turbos aint worth knowing mate.

my only concern is how will the box handle the power, so im putting some cash by for a new box just in case:thumb:

VF35 spools a little earlier, VF34 has a better top end, will give an extra 10hp or so. VF34 probably a better bet on the 2.5l, though I got a VF35 for my 56 wrx because Harvey Smith happened to have a second hand one going at the right time. It does pull really well from low, and keeps going to the WRX's rev limiter. Ported headers and up pipe from Harvey make a difference with the spool. The VF35 at least can suffer from boost creep, not sure if the VF34 does; it can be fixed with a little porting. Best bet is to drop Harvey a PM on here and get his advice. I'd recommend asking him about his headers and up pipe at the same time

Cheers guys.

Either is fine, but on a 2.5 I would go with the VF34. Better top end and spool is not so bad.

VF35 is a winner on a 2.0L as far as spool

LegacySTi 12 May 2012 11:02 PM

vf35 with P15 exhaust a little small for 2.5imo

harvey 13 May 2012 10:37 AM

Given the choice of VF34 or VF35 on a 2 litre I would go for the VF34. Spool may be marginally behind the VF35 but if that is a 340 bhp turbo then the VF34 is at least 20 bhp ahead.
Unless you deliberately want to keep power down on a 2.5 then the VF35 is not an option in my opinion and if you wanted to run a VF35 on a 2.5 engine, get the wastegate ported while you have it off the car. The exhaust inlet can be ported at the same time to match the uppipe if not already done.

VF34 best between the two.. As said above VF35 not ideal on a 2.5.
