Aftermarket Induction Options - Blobeye

The one Im favouring at the moment is something like K&N Typhoon, with Fog ducting like the below

Picture stolen off here, as I like the idea of the subtle colour coded intake :D

Here is mine as it stands.

I was also thinking for a little more style to be adding a small vent on the bonnet as the classic style.

What are you opinions please?

P600wrx 07 May 2012 07:59 PM

Don't bother unless ur running a front mount, have the the ducting, and use the feed pipe into the standard air box as I have done, plenty of cold air to the standard box, this way you will get no heat soak in traffic and the maf will be happy as a pig in mud

What BHP are you wanting to run. The OE airbox with a K&N filter is good for about 400 bhp. Fitting an induction kit can upset the MAF sensor causing fuelling problems. If you are just doing it for the noise just remove the resenator from the drivers side front wing then feed your cold air kit into the box.

I have a perrin CAK sat in my garage if your interested.

Sorry to the above, I should have been more clear. I have enough knowledge to make my own call regarding should I/Shouldn't I with respect to the CAI, and its defiantly a yes.

.I know this will be essential to get the most out of what I'm doing. Going forward (later this year) I will hopefully be going closer towards 500 with FMIC, Turbo, Twin Plate and the other various bolt ons, then as I get closer to the limit I will be making the plunge for a built motor providing I still have the car.... guy in France wants it LOL

I will be breaking 400bhp for the time being whilst retaining the TMIC (just), and I will also be going Mafless.

Yes Steve, PM details please.

Rob

stevebt 07 May 2012 08:40 PM

£100 quid and its yours, the two pipes on the right have nothing to do with it.

scoobynet is playing up :)

Rob Day 07 May 2012 08:47 PM

Scoobynet is very slow at the moment, I ran a full AV and AA check on my notebook yesterday thinking it was as my end ;(

Steve, is that a Inner wing kit? I ideally want to stay within the engine bay.

Rob

stevebt 07 May 2012 08:55 PM

Yeah its an innner wing as in CAK, it could be bay mounted but it would need the silicone pipe cut. If your going for a bay kit I would go with the RCM big maf filter ;)

CharlySkunkWeed 07 May 2012 09:20 PM

K&N Typhoon on mine , nice fit. Heat shield goes right to the bonnet so doesnt let as much engine heat as people make out. If u look at the tiny gap that the air goes through at the min (which it still will) a direct 4" pipe from the fog can only be better IMO.

The RCM Kit is 'kin huge and is a tight fit, but looks tidy and gets plenty of air in - I'd post up pics but I can't get on to imageshack or photobucket in work - search some of my old post as there will be one around somewhere, if not I'll get some up tonight:thumb:

Rob Day 08 May 2012 09:23 AM

Cheers for all the info guys, looks like this is what Im doing then. I bought my last Ducting kit off eBay, where did you guys get yours from guys.

In the case of the RCM cone, is it overkill for me at this stage, however that said I suppose its future proof.

Some great looking kits above, although the pink set up is too femminie for me LOL.

John I also cant view pics at work, and its bloody hard work on my phone ;(

JonMc 08 May 2012 09:42 AM

You say the RCM kit is too big, but I'm running it with a TD04 at the moment and will be upgrading to a VF34 in the next couple of months - I need to improve the heat-shielding but apart from that it is fine, even with the 04, and like you say, plenty of scope to grow from there as well:norty:

Thanks John. Ok I'm on the hunt for RCM kit then ;)

Rob

Ps I have a VF34 if your interested

DonNedly 08 May 2012 01:09 PM

My apexi power intake made good power on a vf34 despite looking small.
Interesting tests carried out here:

Its an HT Autos one , wrapped in 3m di-noc vinyl.

CharlySkunkWeed 08 May 2012 06:11 PM

I got my ducting from halfords , 1.5metre bendy aluminium 4" for £10.

rickya 08 May 2012 06:41 PM

Here's my contraption! A bit of a pain in the backside to do with hacking and cutting but seeing as previous owner has already done a fair bit of hacking to fit a FMIC at some point, it only improved his bodge! Also I had to fit a new silicone turbo inlet hose but the std airbox was not flowing enough air & was causing new hose to suck in, hence CAIK.

Its a APS 70mm CAIK (internal volume) with a large K&N filter, cold air feed with fog light intake joined to the 76mm silicone turbo inlet hose.

I fitted this :

and this :

http://www.subarugenuineparts.com/pr...oducts_id=1079

all done with some other work and mapped by Duncan to 340hp and no issues, intake temps were not affected. Hope this helps

Cheers Guys for all the info and pics and links, very much appreciated. I think I have enough inspiration now, so i'll get moving on ;)

Another Question, the Trumpet that I will put in the Fog cover, what colour do you think you look best?

Black - Subtle (Im favouring)
Silver - ?!? boring?
Orange - Be different (may get other products to follow)
Red - not a fan
Blue - not right on black car
Any other colours?
