This insect found its way into my lounge earlier today, any idea what it is?

Yes my day has been that dull that I have resorted to photographing stray insects!!!!!!

I think that's one of the carnivorous variety. Once they get in the house.......

They can grow several feet over night so best call the emergency services ;)

Cheers David - length wise, somewhere around 25mm from head to tail, not that I can tell which end was which.

Got any more pics? Do you live near water? Can you work out how many legs it has?
I've spent the last 2 hours searching the web trying to find similar pics (yes, sad I know) but can't find any. I know nothing about bugs but I'd just like to know what that is.

I live by the sea - Mrs T has concluded with the aid of her "country companion" that it is a springtail. I see loads of these in the woodstack, or in the corners of my green house, but they are tiny, maybe 3 or 4mm long, and they jump when disturbed.

The rest of the pics I took follow.

The only one that adds any real reference to scale

Springtail it is. Harmless.

Too many legs for an insect but it's some crazy type of crustacean, possibly the bastard offspring of a woodlouse and prawn getting on after 10 pints? :wonder:

zippy! 07 May 2012 10:35 PM

my mate rapid_sti on here asked me what these were a while ago as he has lots of them down his trousers :D
