hi all, just got my 1st subaru, got a 2001 bug eye wrx, so i thought id join here. its pretty much standard with a back box. soooo much that i would like to do to it but gotta save the pennies. what would you advise to do mod wise? cheers and hope to meet some of the people i speak to at meets and that. cheers paul.

Welcome along! Same model as I've got, prepare to be very skint if you get the modding bug!

First thing you should do is make sure servicing is up to date. Cambelt ect.
Then you probably would want an exhaust(poss decat), air filter and a remap. That should free up some ponies and make the car a lot more fun to drive.

haha yeah the mods are endless. cheers for the welcome. yeah service is all up to date n cambelt has recipt ofbeing done so should be ok. it has a back box on the car but when i hada nissan 200sx i got a nur spec r and loved the tone so will most prob look to buy a cat back. n de cat pipes. i find the car as standard has some pull but want it to pull like a train ;)

Like a train you say:norty: Remap with decat, exhaust and filter gets you around 280bhp and makes the car loads better through the whole rev range. Feels like a scooby should! In my opinion standard uk wrx feels quite sluggish, above transforms the car.

Beyond that it does start to get expensive though. Standard brakes are not up to much. Slotted discs and better pads would help, as well as braided lines. Ideally though at this stage you need bigger calipers. For more power you need to change the turbo for one a little bigger. For much over 300 then you also need bigger injectors and intercooler. Most of the bits can be picked up secondhand for reasonable prices but it soon adds up!

hey while your all on the same post lol, on my second scooby now but i live in ipswich and havn't found any mechanics or garages that are very scooby friendly alot tend to be rather scared to touch them to be honest haha :P most the work i do myself but im out in afghan at the moment and when i get home AMONG OTHER THINGS :p im looking to get a cambelt kit and exedy clutch and light weight flywheel fitted (i already have the items) but theyre not really jobs i want to do myself can anyone from the area recommend a decent scooby (not dealer) to do them? thanks mike

hi mike, are you on scooby city? just that they will know on there cos its more local if you know what i mean? if not then get on there and and come to the ipswich meets

I've used a really good mobile Subaru mechanic called Tim Farmer (Ex Zen Performance). Good guy and cheap

He is based in Cambridgeshire but will travel (Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex etc)

I go to John Gross in melton near Woodbridge as they are ex subaru dearers and service'ers. Their mechanics are fully trained up. You will get all the subaru sevicing paperwork if you ask for it and stamp your book(subaru stamp!!) and prices will be lower than Subaru's.

Mikeyboi I've recently been using Fast Test at claydon industrial estate just outside ipswich, they've worked on mine and a few other scoobies, seem ok.
