Caterhams are all ally, not plastic! :-) Well, mine has got a good smattering of carbon too.

TBH, Caterham's service schedule is so aggressive (oil service every 3000 miles) that as long as you don't brain the motor so they just run and run.

Check the service history... Engine aside, I bet all the obvious consumables have been replaced or rebuilt many times.

Welcome to the form, I have nothing but respect for these cars I would have one but only one garage... someday.

My cars done 53k and feel as if i have replace everything, not used it for 2 week waiting on a crank position sensor took it out a spin yesterday and brakes are grinding only changed the discs and pads 18 months ago and the calipers 6 months ago.

Sorry about the plastic comment thought the nose and wheel arches were.

Ha ha - don't worry about me! Get a random bee in my bonnet when people call them plastic! You're right, nose cone and wings do come in fibreglass on the cheaper ones. And if you buy a Westfield most of the bodywork is fibre glass.

A slightly rants message... What an arsey way to introduce myself to a forum.

Funnily enough, mine is for sale. Not even looked at it since its last TD.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't say that at 160,000 / £10k that one is a great buy. Having said that, depending on the history, I don't suppose that the new owner will have any more fears than the rest of us. The chassis are hard as nails, so crashing aside, it won't fatigue. Everything else is a consumable! Gearboxes and diffs are easy enough to rebuild, engines widely available. This one runs a near stock K series - uprated cams, higher rev limit, but basically stock.

Caterhams are the sort of car where you are constantly doing little bits and pieces, and I just figure that there is every chance that this one is no different. But I might build up a new engine anyway. Buy the right donor car (160BHP Rover MG 25 thingy), break it but keep the engine and you've got a 'free' engine (time to buy and break a car aside) sitting on the shelf.

I think what surprised me more than anything with that advert is that after 157,000 miles and 1400 odd TDs that it has not been severely stuffed!
