Changing discs/pads and hoses/brake fluid
 

Hi all,

Just bascially after a quick dummies guide to changing the brakes, never changed brakes before on any car but decided it's about time I learnt, so me and a mate are going to change them this coming week.

I have done a thorough search of the forums and have picked up a few things, but still a few things I'm not sure on.

I'm changing the brake hoses for braided ones and I've read they can be quite hard to change? Is there anything I should do to make it easier?

Also how do I go about replacing the fluid?

Brake hoses: soak all connectors with WD40 at least twice, once 48 hours and once 24 hours before changing.

Use a PROPER brake spanner to get them undone, NOT an open ended jobby, or prepare for hurt.

Depending on the age of the car, it can still end in tears.

Changing brake fluid: have container of fresh fluid and keep topping up main reservoir.

Bleed each brake until fresh stuff comes through. First one takes ages, others not so long. You WILL see the difference in fluid.

If it goes pear shaped with the brake lines, don't worry, new lines back to a cleaner, non rusted area, not big £££
