What clutch is best.

Hi I have a 1996 sti. Clutch is started to slip in boosted. not sure. To fit a adl blue print clutch or a standard excedy. And if to get flywheel skimmed of fit lighted one.

RICHARD J 26 April 2012 07:46 PM

Forget the blue print one, they are over priced for what they are and not the best quality. As far as the rest go depends on what power you are running, what you use the car for & your budget. The flywheel wants at least a skim but I'd look at a lightened one.
By the time youv bought an Exedy & flywheel youv spent about £600, so if you plan on running big power or going on the drag strip you may be best off paying the extra for a twin plate kit which includes flywheel, it'll last much longer.
I'd drive a car with an exeddy before buying one as they tend to judder & are not evryones cup of tea.

Not to sure wt bhp its runing would like a bit more. its got a td05h do u know how to get more bhp. Just useing it as a road car. So would u stay peat from adl mate. I will just prbly get flywheel skimed and balanced

With that turbo you aint running more than 350 (unless its bigger than 16g) and for that exedy pink box will do the job just fine:)

Phil199 26 April 2012 09:03 PM

How do I know if its a 16g? How much is that one mate do u get more boosted if u shorted actuator.

Yes go for antijudder version pink box
Best place for clutches imo

Cheers. Haven't got that much money yet. How's the blue box

RICHARD J 26 April 2012 09:41 PM

Check out AP clutches many prefer these to Exedy. A skimmed flywheel will be fine.

Forget the blue box.If you dont have funds at least for exedy pink box then go for 2nd hand one:thumb:

A 230mm blue box Exedy clutch is only good for 300bhp. TD05 is a very capable turbo. I would recommend buying the Exedy Racing Organic (Anti-Judder Pink Box) as the other gents have suggested.

Give us a call if you are still unsure:

If you go for an Exedy, ensure it is a anti-judder clutch, these are abit of a nightmare when it comes to everyday/road use.

CG Performance do a very good clutch for around £250, this is good value for money, if your after a budget clutch, I'd recommend looking for a second hand clutch from a reputable Impreza breaker or a fellow SN member, you'd save a lot of money on the part price this way, just ensure it's in good working order!

AP racing competition clutch on mine with no judder.
Exedy are also very good (pink) ..........
