6 speed wr1 box into sti ra
Will be converting my ra in the next few weeks but want to make sure i have all the bits.
Will my front shafts fit or will i need stub axles, also what benifits would it be to change the clutch and flywheel to 6 speed setup? Also what oil capacity does these boxes use? Cheers Jay |
To fit it you will need:
6 speed front stub shafts 6 speed Clutch operating fork 6 speed mounting cradle 6 speed gear linkage - the gold coloured one as the silver ones from hatches are too long 6 speed prop shaft 6 speed starter 6 speed anti plunge bracket about 4.6 litres in the box and a 3.9 rear diff to match the box. You can, but don't need to, go to a 6 speed clutch. The original 5 speed ones do work ok subject to power limitations. David APi 01926 614333 |
Just noticed you had replyed, cheers david.
got everything apart from the stub shafts, thought mine would have fitted( im probably wrong tho) Not sure what the plunge bracket is, i take it thats what the mounting point is at the top of the box where it mounts to the dog bone mount( if thats what its called lol) Might just stick the box in with the 5 speed setup as clutch is fine and ill probably be going forged over winter anyway Cheers Jay |
do you really have to change to 6 speed starter if your using a 5 speed flywheel and clutch?
And does the 6speed Clutch operating fork work with a 5 speed clutch? and what is "anti plunge bracket"? Is it really 4.6L in the box? What i've heard of its about 4.1L. |
yeh you only have to change too 6 speed starter if you change too a 6 speed flywheel
Its the stubs im not sure off dont really want to order them at a £120 quid a pair if my own ones fit. Jay |
Some 5 speed starters do fit and others don't. We call the one that fits, the 'open nose' type. But yes you can use the 5 speed fly and clutch.

But if I use a 6 speed starter I have to use a 6 speed flywheel(and clutch) or can I use my 5 speed flywheel? We have a 6 speed starter from a 2.0 STI here at work, we also have a slave cylinder for the clutch if I need it.
The left one is from a 2000 WRX and the right one is from the 2.0 STI. Does my 5 speed starter fit if it looks like the left one?? http://www.djfoto.se/bilder/subba/starter1.jpg http://www.djfoto.se/bilder/subba/starter2.jpg /David - Superior Media |
