Alloy Radiators

Hi all,
I'm just putting my car back together after Paul Finch sorted out my engine rebuild after HG failure.
I'm thinking about an Alloy Radiator to keep it cooler. Does anyone recommend these & which one?
Thanks Richard.

Is this on a newage or classic Richard? If its a newage then yes,
I went for a Mishimoto, lifetime warranty etc. + option of triple core rad (requires some cutting of top hose and was abit trickier to fit the overflow bottle back on)

I ordered mine to replace my leaking top split standard one it arrived next morning beautifully packaged, have not had any problems, this with a zero sports thermostat has noticeably improved running temps.

I was told to avoid the crap on ebay and that I would be replacing it again in 3 months if i bought one (a cheap ali one that is), though I hear many have bought the standard rads from ebay and ran them for several years without any issues.

Mines a 96 STI. Iv got the Zero Sports, seen on the website they do one for a classic aswell.

Is your standard one failing? was led to believe they are solid on the classics, (no plastic crimp topped radiators there!)

Also been told the standard ones provide ample cooling for big power apps (know a few running 600 + bhp on the standard rad in a classic.

Ill say Its nice bling under your bonnet, nice and strong if your going to go racing, I don't think its needed for normal road use.....but I like mine ;)

I went for a Mishimoto as well. Arrived really well packaged and is a perfect fit. Really pleased with it.

Can u put them on classic ?

RICHARD J 11 April 2012 04:12 PM

Selling them on the Mishimoto website so I guess so.

Thinking of ordering the Mishimoto but mine is still OK. After mine blew a head gasket a mate suggested to me that seing as I'm running 450 BHP a better rad may help. Any other thoughts on this?

Look at Cool Parts UK on ebay.
Sounds silly, but they're very cheap; I had one on my old bug WRX and my local Subaru parts manager said the quality looked very good, so much so that he was even considering buying them in and selling them to customers.

OK, I called RCM this afternoon very helpful as usual, & they told me they only ever use the OE radiator even on their race car. I'm putting this plan on hold now as it sounds like it's just pointless.
The Mishimoto looks great though maybe when mine goes il get one of these but not yet.

i just bought a japspeed alloy one over 60nuggets less then missmento.

dazdavies 12 April 2012 10:24 PM

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the standard classic rad. If mine failed, i'd replace it with another standard classic Rad.

Plenty of cars with them running way over 700bhp

RICHARD J 12 April 2012 10:33 PM

Daz,
I think I totally agree with you & if it's good enough for RCM then it's good enough for anyone else. But for some underbonnet bling the Mishimoto looks pretty good.
