Ecutek software Safety features??
What If any Safety features does the Ecutek software have on a Wrx 2005 model . Just wondered as on my old car it had a power fc and would let you know that it was detecting det (via the eng cel light flashing) But not retard the ignition timing . Does the Ecutek software do any of this above ? :wonder:

Ecutek software as far as i'm aware doesnt display anything related to engine knock as it corrects itself automatically so no need to alert the driver, Unless in servere cases the knock is so bad it goes beyond the preset threshold and triggers a cel code
|
All i needed to know thanks!!! :thumb:

EcuTek keeps all the safety features that your ECU has (limp mode, Throwing CELSs, reducing AIM etc).........which is one of the benefits of keeping the DENSO ECU rather than having a new ECU.

So it's best to remap then , why do u have to pay so much for the licence it's a rip off take its just away for more money to be pulled from your pocket there must be places that don't rip off customers any one know of any
|
You pay so much for the licence fee because of the cost of the reverse engineering and the tools.......and the mappers are meant to be vetted.
You can remap with free software and avoid the licence fee if you wish. Shaun |
Untill I got my scoob I'd never heard of it it's a joke
|
It's just business... they are there to make a living and that's how they do it. Like I had to buy a licence for Windows for the Lappy I'm typing on.

Not sure what you regard as being "so much", but £150 is a pittance to me for what the EcuTEK software gives me as an end user!
|
Ecutek are a business. The licence fee is for using their software on your ECU. They are hardly going to give it away for free. I personally think its a fairly reasonable fee.
There's always other cheaper options out there. |
I also have no issue paying for the license fee.
|
Ahh so it's a program to reprogram that makes sence now but 300 for just that then 300 for a map still is a bit mad
|
First remap using the software is £450. then tweeks or changes at a later date in the map are £195 if I recall
|
So why is it just scoobys that have to paid big bucks
|
Having had Bob Rawle, Andy Forrest and Pat Herborne map my car........I wouldn't call that big bucks :D
Shaun |
I've had a few tweeks on my existing map & I'm quite happy to pay for what these chaps do Especially Andy F for there expertise at the end of the day I wouldnt trust my car with any tom dick or harry.
The way I see it is, if the Map is custom to the car and your mods then it's going to be spot on. It could easilly go the other way if your trying to cut costs and end up with a terminal engine issue. |
Remap with licence from a reputable Ecutek expert £500
Rebuilt engine (back to factory spec) circa 3k + More if the car is modified and other bits get bent! No brainer! :D |

You can of course not bother with a licence and keep your scoob std ;). But if you want more power then you have to pay, like most things in life imho. I got my 99 car remapped on a group buy for £400 ,which is peanuts as you can pay that for 4 x wheels & tyre.I have a mate who had a focus st and he took it to wolf racing who mapped it to 300 bhp and it cost him £1200  . |
Has the cost come down now then as im sure i paid £625 with the vat.was about two years ago tho.

don't compare apples with cheese :nono: :lol1::lol1::lol1: most other cars just get a generic flash map, so once the origional map is doen take 5 mins to apply to another car. The mapping done by the peopel mentioned in here are full custom maps, completely tailored to your car. Get a full custom map done on another car and you'll find the price isn't that much different if its being done correctly :thumb: |
or you could have an open source remap and not pay any license fee

Don't let the name put you off, he is really very good :D I've used him on several occassions, always with great results! http://www.jollygreenmonster.com/ |
People are getting confused with the EcuTEK element and what your mapper is charging on top! ;)
The EcuTEK license is £150...... whatever your mapper is charging in top of that is down to him, so perhaps you need to push your questions onto your mapper. ;) Now you'll see who is charging the majority out of this single transaction, although you'll hear that the mapper has to spend a few grand on the EcuTEK programming software though. Life and business is a bitch! :D DonNedly, You're absolutely right.... but then most "freeloading rapists" have the same opinion, sorry I mean "ECU opensource ethusiasts". ;) |

if i (or a previous owner to be precise) have had a ECUTEK remap done on my car, do i need to pay for a new licence if i don't get it remapped at the same place it originially got done?
|
Nope the licence is on the ecu and remains there
