blobeye or hawkeye sti
 

Im sure this subject has been done to death, but having trawled this site Im still a little confused.
Im going to change my car in next few weeks and have decided on a scooby.
My budget is around £9 - 10 k and for that i want as recent and low miles as possible, with as much bang for my buck as i can.
Now, as far as i can tell blobeye gets 2.0 l 275 ish bhp or ppp version gets just over 300

Hawkeye is 2.5l and gets 275 ish bhp not sure I've seen a ppp version.
Both blob and hawk seem to go for similar money but hawkeye gets higher tax.
I plan to use car for fun, i don't commute, and prob 5 -6 trackdays a year.
Not planning to modify but may have a remap at some point
so main questions are,
Which version would be best on track chassis wise, blobeye ,hawkeye or is ppp much better?

Which has the best engine for reliability, and if remapped give best results.

And how different is a ppp version from a sti in real world driving conditions?

better torque levels on the 2.5 and there are some around that still fit into the cheaper tax bracket but are few and far around.

the hawk sti has the vf43 turbo and can get upto around 360-380 depending on supporting mods.etc.

you can pick up hawk sti from 7500 onwards so its a no brainer.

you can pick up a ltd edition WR1 for 8-10k if you want something a bit different
there 320bhp as standard.

would recommend no matter what car you go for.put the details up on here incase people know the car and if you get one from a forum like this then its more than likely you will be able to check up on the users posts etc so you can track and mods/damage/problems they have had.

These days the PPP is a waste of time. A decent sports cat exhaust and re-map by a known mapper gives much better results than the PPP.
I think it's safe to say that the 2 litre in the STi Blob is a stronger and more tunable engine and hasn't suffered the head gasket and ring land failures that are known in the 2.5 litre
I've owned my 03 STi from new and it's been through PPP, Re-map (took it to 340bhp) it's now nudging 400

As you state track days and no commute, i'd say you will be much better off if you go for a jdm sti, and even better would be to stretch your budget slightly and get yourself a spec c, i have seen them for as little as 12k and they are the ultimate trackday/week end toy.

I would also avoid the 2.5L as it's just not worth the risk for the reasons stated above, and if your tracking on a regular basis then your better off buying a car that was designed for the extra stress that it involves, possibly look at modded cars too, ie big brake kits and oil coolers, and a set of gauges is essential.

What about the suspension on the prodrive version, is there much difference to the standard sti.?

By the way I've spotted a blobeye ppp on piston heads
£ 8995 55 plate with 49k miles full service recent belts etc.

About going rate ?

For the use you're suggesting, 2L JDM blob. JDM blobs are easier to come by than JDM hawkeyes. The 2.5L is a nice engine for a road car so that's not required......unless, as above, you can find a well and appropriately modded one.

On a PPP'd car, the suspension was not a part of the package. You could get Prodrive lowering springs which were a worthwhile modification.

A little more than what Im looking for though.
Looking for one with a more stock engine, don't mind the chassis mod though.
