to any hatch owners
Looking at getting a hatch sti, I've had many classics at various levels of power and a mk1 type 25.
To any hatch owners out there, how do you find them on a day to day bassis. How many miles are you getting from a tank of fuel and more importantly if you have gone from a classic, blobeye to the hatch how have you found it. I assume they are more refined then all the previous but I am looking for some opinions of the feel of the car, drive etc And any particular mods would you say are a must. Thanks |

Thanks Mine's absolutly fantastic, I had a blob sti before hand despite the 5 sets of knocking rear shockers it was a great car. The hatch I use it every day to commute to work and back 52 miles a day 5 days a week for work, Mines more or less straight onto the main road from my house then the motorway and does around 320 to a tank of fuel & thats remapped and running 16% methanol. I would say much more refined inside and comfort is pretty good too, Handles better than the old sti ever used to seems much more planted and stable on the road. Must have mod would be a custom remap so it saves the engine and also increases the MPG a little too. |
Recently upgraded from a bugeye WRX to a Hatch STI with PPP, the difference is night and day which you'd expect with over 100bhp more. Lag is pretty much non existent and it has plenty of low down torque. The only downside being the well documented problems the 2.5s suffer from.
Fuel consumption wise I've been getting around 250-270 miles to a tank on average with a mixture of driving. |
Blobeye to Hatch for me. Much better all round car that still ticks all the boxes. I find the Hatch to be O.K on fuel, the power is there (plenty of it) when you need it and with good maintenance it is as reliable as any other Subaru on the road.
Still a rare car, which is also nice. |

Thanks The chassis also copes with bumps and crests and bad roads better than any previous generations - especially on wet days, it's definitely the one i'd take on a wet night down a greasy road. I get about 260 - 280 miles out of a tank, but i'm in relatively heavy traffic half of the time. And i do give it the beans when the roads clear up. :D Having owned a bug wrx, hatch sti, hawk spec c and regularly driven a hawk sti uk, the hatch ticks most of the boxes as the most well rounded car IMHO.:thumb: |

I've gone from a classic to the hatch and it was like going from a Mk2 escort to the classic. It has the ability to deal with everything from B roads through to motorways and still feel like it's at home on both.

Cheers for all the help guys, the hatch in question has had a forged build and a custom map so crossed fingers it will be fine. Just stuck between the hatch sti or a focus rs (mk2) was going to go mad and finance a gtr but I've seen the light lol moment of madness. Think I better get to the dealers today and drive it.

It sold this morning whilst waiting a call back to put a deposit/holding fee :-( any how onwards and upwards on to the next one.

although my pitons recently let go in the 08 sti hatch i still love it. I traded up from an 07 hawk and think its def a more refined car all round.

my first scooby is a hatch, the engine went but now its forged with a 321T etc etc, everyday its a nice car, easy to exploit and grips like mad, but the steering is crap, its the worst thing about the car by miles, there are options to fix that though, but shouldn't have too.
i get 210-220 out of a tank, comute is country lanes though. "map" switch is totally redundant and annoying, DCCD is nice though and makes things fun, also the two stage dynamics switch is good, HID's are also nice, ride is surprisingly good for the style of car, glides over bumps that used to send my R26 flying! |
