Dccd gearbox. Problem or paranoid
Hi there my car does not change gear very smoothly I checked the dipstick today whilst slightly warm and it was on the low marker can this cause the gear changes to be like this from 2nd to third is the worst is almost feels like its grinding even at low rpm. There is a bill from the end of 2010 for a full box rebuild at scoobyclinic so it can't be shagged already surly.... I have ordered 2 bottles of motul 300 oil for top up.. 1997 sti type r

How much power you running through it.
It will be a 752 box at that age I think which are not the strongest. |
Hi Matty it's 313bhp and around 300 lbft but does not get driven hard
|
Ohh it's a v4 not a v3 if this makes any diffrence thanx
|
Strange then, it's been rebuilt recently and not running huge power so should be good.
Maybe do a oil change to some decent shock proof oil to see if that helps or give the clinic a call and see what they suggest. Usually though if it's crunching then an oil change won't do much. My 752 box started to crunch going into 3rd and 5th so did an oil swap, did help a bit but didn't cure it. The damage was already done unfortunately, ended up changing the box for a later 754. |
Thank you for the advice, is motul 300 good enough oil to put in I think it's 75/90, I really hope it's not fooked

Motul 300 75/90 is fine for the dccd box, its what i use to use in my V3 RA.

Well I will give it a top up when it arrives if the level is on low how much shall I put in and where should te level be?
|
From memory there is some hatching on the dip stick, fill until the level is at the top of the hatching marks.
Fill via the dipstick hole using a small funnel being extra careful not to spill it as it bloody stinks. |
So fill it up to the top of the hatching great thanx, and I know I got it on my self whilst checking it !! I thought the cat had pissed on me!
